I don't understand why, but I have an irrational hatred for them! In a universe with powerful Anti-grav capabilities it makes no sense to have any ground vehicles to start with, much less ones with legs. But that part is logical. I don't mind the AT-ST and I love the AT-TE, but still can't stand that slow lumbering elephantine fuck. It's just so useless to use something so big and slow to move a few dozen dudes and a couple speeder bikes.

The "Wookiepedia" (<-real) describes it as a repulsorlift, and most every ship and speeder uses it I believe.

Anti-gravity tech is canon in Star Wars (usually called Repulsorlift technology) but I don't know how widespread it is in practice.

I think it's point is it's height and size. Less likely to suffer from mine attacks, easier to shoot straight/down than in an arc.
