With all the posts today about America First and the general fascist slide of the right wing, I was reminded of this piece from the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
Naturally, DinéYazhi' - being Navajo - has a different take on this than your average white person; but as conservatives get more and more fashy, I think even white folks can get a glimpse from his point of view. Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel, and scoundrels have few - if any - qualms about inflicting their beliefs on others, or exterminating them outright.

You can also spot mentally ill by their flag fetishism. The more flags they got, the harder they're trying to convince you their not batshit crazy, because the more flags they got out, the crazier they are.

As a German (granted, we nowadays have a somewhat negative view on patriotism) the American love for flags has always seemed very odd to me.

As an American, I fucking cringe when I see people with American flags outside of their house or on their shirt or hat or a sticker on their car. Like why do you feel the need to go out of your way to make sure everyone knows how 'patriotic' you are?
