you were so close to learning something from this

Eventually there's going to be a climate event with deaths in the millions.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

At least they were "Excess".

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

And as always it's the poor and elderly who can't afford A.C.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

I fucken wish I was making this shit up

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 13

I wish you were too. You do get it means who ever designed the building and the HVAC system are at fault for that

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

There are hospitals in Germany where the surgeons are wearing ice packs to stay cool during surgeries because in their infinite wisdom they didn't see fit to climate control a god damn hospital. This is a failure much larger than poor people cant afford an AC

Unbelievable

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Unbelievable because the source is Xhitter from a racist troll.

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Be that as it may its a real story thats really happening as we speak

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

Like all right wing rage bait stories, I'd wager the real truth is a bit different than is being relayed by some "Professional Red pill" racist dipshit. Get better sources than social media outrage farms.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

And you better not install a AC unit with out 11 permits and trying everything else to cool down first.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

That is NOT the problem here. We let this happen because we did not act to stop climate change.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Two things can be a problem at the same time. Lets pile on! Nuclear power is GREEN energy, even more so than solar/wind. Yes, it is, studies proved it. So also is heat/steam from forests(and other cellulose), carbon neutral cept for transportation (use EV trucks to be more so). To get serious for climate change we need a mix of huge and micro power, as well as carbon sinks to rapidly offset humanities full footprint.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It takes about 10 years to build a nuclear power plant and only a limited number of people qualified to do it which means the leadup is long and you cant mass produce them on short notice.

As a response to a crisis its the wrong answer. If we started to prepare for this 50 years ago or even just 20 then that would be different.

The benefits of solar and wind is that they are dirt cheap and quick to set up where needed. As a stop-gap response they are virtually perfect for what we need.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is part of my point, we knew 40 years ago and did nothing productive about it

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But to come back to the original topic. This is not the right climate for Europe. For the same reason as Saudi Arabia does not have a fleet of snow removers on stand by, in case of a freak snow storm or buildings that can withstand the cold and immense weight of snow buildup, Europe is not built for tropical heat.

Even if we ignore the cost, it will take a long time to adapt society for the new climate. And by the way, AC is not the solution here either. Its not how people elsewhere do it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

just because someone somewhere does it differently, doesnt mean ac is not the solution. the buildings arent designed for it as you said, for that other solution. super efficient mini splits are how plenty of places do it. And i didnt say solar/wind were not solutions, only that they are not as green as people tout them and that nuclear done 40 years ago would have been more green

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What an embarrassing failure

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 18

They must not have got a permit for the AC units to be installed

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

I don't understand. Why wouldn't they install air conditioning in a new public building like this?

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Source is questionable. Right wing outrage bait post.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Image is taken from here: https://inuteq.com/markets/healthcare/ So it doesn't depict the current situation in the hospital in question. I'm German, so I did some googling, there was indeed a German news article that reported 38°C *in front of the entrance* of that specific part of the hospital, which sounds to me like it talks about outside temperature. The hospital seems to indeed only be partially air-conditioned, which is rightfully criticized, but OPs 'reporting' feels in bad faith.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Ah figures. Again, Right wing rage bait posting as I figured.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Here's the article in question: https://archive.is/20260626055830/https://rp-online.de/nrw/staedte/duesseldorf/uni-klinik-duesseldorf-hitze-auf-der-etage-der-herzstation_aid-150485555 It does show an image of 38°C inside, but again, outside the unit, so likely just a corridor without aircon. Strikes me as slightly bad reporting, but I assume they weren't allowed into the unit to measure there. Most of the article talks about the measures the hospital does take against heat.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh, and no mention about heat vests or ice packs from home in the article, that's purely fiction.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Per Google, 75% of French homes do not have air conditioning. That is wild to me. In the US that number is under 10%.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Because up until recently (last 10 years) the amount of time you would use the AC was incredibly low. Combine that with homes that are generally better designed to handle heat / have a high thermal mass, means that most of Northern Europe just never needed AC before. If you have a house with thick stone or well insulated brick walls or doesn't heat to that quickly so the odd day here and there are fine, it's the prolonged heat that causes the issues.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If it’s over 65F my AC is on. It never got over 65F before?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of course, but yesterday it got to around 28c outside, but in my house it was about 20c without AC. Historically the mean daily max temp in the summer was around 24c, next week is predicted to be over 30c every day. Hence why I say that it never used to be an issue here, we got hot days, but not the prolonged heat waves that we are seeing now.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve been reading about European heat deaths for at least the last 25 years tho. Seems like some AC would be helpful.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Climate change and capitalism. Remember those charts of recent temps going WAY up? it's moving and changing rapidly. The rich don't want us to fix society, just let the "poors" die off. Canada recently had a heat dome where it hit 121F(49.6C). Governments usually don't move fast, and move slower when the rich are not interested in people living, especially when the people are forced to fork over even more money to survive.

3 weeks ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

There are about 95 million people in those 3 countries, so it would take 25000 heatwaves to kill them all. Even if there's 25 heatwaves a year, and only half the population needs to die, it will take about 500 years. I don't think the rich expect to live that long?

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

Global collapse of food production will be the killer

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The 49.6 was including humidity the temp was 36 ish, source I was in that heat dome.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Atleast they have that free Healthcare they keep rubbing in our faces every 5 minutes. Although now its a bit mute if you die of heatstroke in the waiting room

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 20

I mean, the US not having it is the fault of Capitalism and the right to deny universal healthcare. But we're seeing that even THAT is being weakened by capital groups and billionaires salivating at privatizing it. The NHS in the UK, Canada's NHS both are being intentionally weakened like the right has done in the US. Make it weaker, creaky, less funded, then claim "only privatization can fix this!" and we end up worse like in the US. Asking for millions more suddenly? Conservatives just scoff.

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

And there's the other shoe dropping. This is just nationalist shitposting. Europe has had a temperate climate, that's why AC use is so low. It takes time & money to start adding AC to older buildings, which Europe has a lot more of than the US. I live in western WA, also a temperate climate, and we used to have AC rates of only 30-40% in homes. Now we're closer to 60%. Climate change is happening faster than people can adapt to, stop blaming the victims or trying to score cheap political points.

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

And again, like I said in another post, I can only go by what I know. I don't know if this "Hospitals don't have any climate control" is a thing or not. It doesn't sound right given the right wing love to make shit up. Even hospitals in Canada have some form of climate control here.

3 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I'm French, it's not here. Even old clinics haves AC. Sometimes, older hospitals might have faulty AC and getting it repaired is problematic but it's not a problem nation-wide. We always had AC in most public spaces, it's having it in our homes that was never really needed.

Only really seeing this from Xhitter. from a person who is.. yeah. um. weird. and.. seems to post a few kinda racist shit posts. Why you listening to this shithead?

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Even searching in German I can't find anything outside of Xhitter posts, or "news" articles referencing Xhitter posts...

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They talk about white culture, how places are becoming "Islamic republics", some wierd anti-indigenous posts. and that is just in the past 24 hours. Yikes bro.
