The NSF released today this footage of the collapse of the instrument platform at the Arecibo Observatory here in Puerto Rico. I never got the opportunity to go visit this observatory and I will always regret this. Please note that PR government is not responsible for the maintenance of this observatory. I know that PR's economy is in total chaos but this is all federally funded. Congress just didn't want to fund this anymore even though major renovations were needed. Sad.

Sad to see it fall, but seem like the whole place was pretty much a ruin at this point. Everything learned will lead to a new era.
