I'm mostly just venting and expect this to die in usersub.

I decided in March when I stepped on the scale and saw an out of range error that it was time to do something about my weight. I saw my doctor and we put a plan together. I'm not posting here to brag about some fad diet or miracle drug, all I can say is that I'm using more calories than I consume. That first visit they weighed me in at 412 lbs. That's a lot. A lot a lot.

My 3 month goal with my doctor was 5% of my body weight, so approximately 20 lbs. I'm way past that, almost double it now. I'm feeling slightly better overall and being more active. All that is great. The issue though is that I don't see the results. I still feel fat. I still see the same thing in the mirror as 2 months ago. About 6 weeks ago I stopped getting an error on my scale when I dropped below 400, and since then I've been watching the numbers drop week over week. (if you are trying to lose weight comparing day to day is dangerous and discouraging because you might not see results or you only see fluctuations) I'm currently plateaued at around a pound a week, which is still progress and healthy, but I started out losing quickly so it feels like I've stalled.

Last year was rough for me. I got sick in January, and it was every symptom of C-19 in someone my age who is overweight. I've been relatively healthy despite my weight up until then, but since then I've had heart issues and need to take daily meds. I was never diagnosed with SARS-COV-2 or C-19 since there was no awareness in my area at the time, and testing wouldn't have been available even if there was since I hadn't travelled internationally to be potentially exposed. By the time my doctor (who is also convinced I was a very early case) was able to get me an antibody test I was long over the effective period and tested negative. I'm now fully vaccinated. I mention all this to say, I just checked my vitals from my first visit in January 2020, and I was 383 lbs. So I'm now below my pre-covid weight and still see no progress.

Anyways, y'all can let this die in usersub, there's no flashy before and after pictures like front page wants to see. I just wanted to tell SOMEONE about how I'm feeling because despite my progress I'm mildly depressed. My wife doesn't see a problem with my weight and doesn't want me to "over do it" with weight loss. My personal goal is to make the life changing and years long journey to get down to around 180 for my ideal height/weight ratio. I want to go camping, fishing, hiking, and biking again. I can't do any of that with an extra 200 lbs of fat to haul around. I love the outdoors and moved to where I live now because it's close to the mountains, but I get tired just walking around Costco.

TLDR; it's in the meme. OP lost weight, OP still fat, OP wants to see results more than he wants to eat ice cream.

----
Edit: Some have mentioned I should add tips, others mentioned keto. So here's a keto tip: keto isn't sustainable for everyone. For me I lost about 50 lbs on keto in 2018, but gained it back the moment I stopped doing keto.

I'm wanting this journey to be about permanent change rather than fitting into a swimsuit for summer, so I'm working hard on building sustainable eating habits that will last me the rest of my life. I'm trying to eat balanced meals with good nutrition. I'm eating less. I'm exercising more. I'm drinking more water. I'm still eating the same food I did 3 months ago, and hell I had taco bell last night. That doesn't matter as much as how much you eat and when. Don't eat right before bed. Don't binge. Drink water if you're hungry because you might actually be thirsty. If you sit at a desk all day like I do, find excuses to get up and move every hour or two. Feed the cat, refill your water, grab some coffee, do that one chore you've been putting off for 3 weeks but will only take 5 minutes when you actually do it.

You already made a dent. Keep on keeping on. My friend dropped from 300lbs it took time to see results. Small goals

Like you I like to feel alive. I’m doing small portion reductions and its dropping me a bit less than 1lbs a week. But dropped 25 lbs total.

I always upvote personal progress. Good job, dude. Keep at it.

Hang in there! This is an investment in yourself. Results can keep you motivated, but there will be ups and downs. Don't get discouraged

You lost nearly 10 percent of your body weight keep it up

Keepnup the good work @op

It took you a long time to put it on, it takes time to take it off. The important thing is to keep putting one foot in front of the other

You're not going to see it on your body right away but you damn sure know you're almost 40 lb less when you look at that scale. It's working

Progress, not perfection. As long as you're losing, that's good. Also consider measuring inches around waist, arms, legs to see change.

Mirrors lie. Trust the numbers and stick to it. And don’t beat yourself up if you stumble.

Keep moving, focus on how you're feeling, concentrate on the things that indicate improvement, energy, being able to exercise longer,

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Climbing that flight of steps that used to kill you, etc.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can relate. I'm down about 10 lbs to 240, but you'd never know it to look at me. And also trying to do it sustainably. It's a struggle.

Congratulations! You'll feel it first and notice it visually after. Keep at it.

That's some awesome progress. Especially considering you're doing it the sustainable way. Keep it up, @OP. Looking forward to the photos of

the walks, hikes, fishing, etc. in your future. Tell your wife the strangers on the internet are proud of you.

I don't know your background, but there's a fair chance you also gained a few lbs of muscle. So overall you lost even more fat than just 36

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also your advice at the bottom is fantastic. All I can say is great job, don't give up, we're here to support you if you want it

I've been losing weight slowly over the last few years. I've only recently noticed the change. Keep going, you've got this!

I am glad you are doing your best to make good life choices. Well done so far, keep it up.

I lost 60+ on keto got below 300 didn’t notice it either. But clothes were loose, feet didn’t hurt after work. People could see it,I didn’t

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I lost a whole bunch on keto in 2018, but gained it all back when I went off it. Keto wasn't sustainable for me.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Worked for me then I plateaued, but kept on it. Then I hurt my back and now I’m just as fat as I originally was.I need to try something else

Congrats! Steady progress means more than speed. If you have tips, however small, you should share them. Helping others is a good way to 1/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

/2 remember how much you've done and feel your progress if the visible results aren't making you feel it yet.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're a fucking rock star, op! Stay focused on how you feel and keep moving. You're doing great :)

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It may not look like you’re making progress but at this rate you absolutely are. Keep measuring and keep track of your progress.

I have an athletic background so I may be easier for me, but I am 373lbs, I go on daily 4km walks, have a peddle kayak, and hike through 1/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The summer months. I bike 15km when I don’t take my dog. All I’m saying is I know exactly what you mean when you say weighing that much 2/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holds you back, and maybe I’m lucky I played sports my entire childhood, but it really is just a number. Try and get out there, try not 3/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To hold yourself back from doing all the things you want to do. Currently on a weight loss journey myself, want to get back into sports 4/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like I used to, playing volleyball, soccer, hockey, etc. It seems like forever, but mountains weren’t created in minutes. Keep kicking ass

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have an athletic background as well. I wrestled in HS and used to hike and play golf. I hurt my back in 2013 and that's when I started 1/?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the everyday weighing when nothing happens is soul crushing.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op i lost 30 but didn't see it either. Started taking a lot of different measurements, finally found where it was being lost 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wasn't where I was expecting, didn't affect clothes, but at least it's reassurance. Keep going.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait.. where was it? Were you losing your soul? Was it teeth? How did you measure your ears?! I've gained hair so I know it's not that!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fat deposits in weird places. Right inner thigh, left back boob, underside of my butt. Rarely the waist, and rarely symmetrical.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Symmetrical is what I'm mostly worried about. I'm okay losing weight all over, I just don't want to be so lop sided I walk in circles.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It'll even out eventually supposedly, bodies are bizzare
