I don't like things like birthdays, new years or holidays. Too arbitrary, too much cultural crap and obligations wrapped up in a random day. Best to think of it as just today, the merciless present. At most holidays are a reminder to some people, but honesty, if they need reminding to treat you well, to make a change, they aren't really your friends or family anyway.
