Help me quit!

Jul 5, 2016 11:39 AM

So, I've been a smoker for longer than half my life. I tried to quite once when my firstborn came along and lasted a week but that was 6 years ago. Over the last 2 years I started exercising, got fit and trim. Stopped biting my nails. Watched what I ate and didn't overindulge. It seems like this is the one bad habit that I can't shake. Part of the problem is that mentally I've always looked at it as a "we all have to die of something" approach and whilst very aware of the damage it does the willpower is just not there. Any thoughts appreciated.

Speaking from experience.... Do you want to go to your kid's wedding or do you want them to think about all of the things you missed out on?

I have read that it's very helpful, somebody told me to brew a tea with a cigarette also and the taste will put me right off...still to try

Don't do that. I have a slight memory of that a cigarette contains a really unhealthy amount of nicotine if you eat it or similar.

heard the pills work.. also vapes work but you have to sell your soul

*snigger* not only my soul, I'd have to renounce my sexuality, monetary value and the ire of my children

Bit the bullet and bought a vape on Saturday, I've only had 5 cigarettes since then, and I normally go through a pack in 2-3 days. It helps

but, but....it's vape!

Breathing better is worth it. And also you don't use it to blow the biggest clouds you can in this manner, I probably put off less "smoke"

Than a ciggy

I'd go with vaping. You can cut down on the nicotine while still doing the smoking stuff. I would have more problem with quitting that 1/

than cutting nicotine. Also seen cigarette shaped nicotine inhalers that might work. Can still take a break with a coffee and a "smoke". 2/2

the "starting the day" cigarette with a coffee, how am I gonna top that?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heroine? :-) My plans are to just cut down a lot. I'd like to be able to have a coffee or a beer and 1-2 cigarettes on the weekends.

I quit by knowing I wanted to quit and accepting the misery when it came. Quitting is agreeing to accept the shitty until it passes. It will

Smoked for 5 years. Quit after reading a good book. Didn't have to rely on willpower, vapes, nic gum or drugs to stop. Turns out (1/)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the main reason why I smoked was thinking that I needed it to be social, get creative, take breaks, or have time to myself (2/)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

realized that I could still do all those things with out the smoking 3/3

I quit about five years ago. I used the pills, and it works, but it still takes some willpower.

Cold Turkey when I tried, part of the issue is that If I'm going to be replacing one expense for the other I'd stick with the Ciggies :)

You only take the pill for 30 days, after that it's all you. The first two weeks are the hardest. It gets pretty easy after that

You'll still think about it, frequently, but it won't be a murderous urge always in the front of your mind.

5 years later, i still think about it every week or two
