How To Handle A Goblin

Meezady knows not to invite these gross ear-monsters to parties.

Onisase says: Even nasty monsters can find self-realization with your help. („ᵕᴗᵕ„)

The only April fool I see here is the one who is currently Elbow deep in a goblin.

Remember: Even if you're a mistake, that's a problem for your creator, not for you.

I was born into this world without my consent, and I WILL make that a problem for any who lack basic empathy. Might be a very MINOR problem but it will be a problem.

For a story (or audiobook) with amazing goblin interactions. Check out the Wandering Inn. Highly recommended by me! A stranger on the internet!

Anyone saying things like in #1 IRL deserve to have their knee privileges revoked.

I still find this sad, even as a joke. Beings shouldn't be made to feel worthless.

I know. @ElbowDeepInAGoblin you're kinda, TOO good at this.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're greenies, not 'beings'!

The only problem with fuckin Goblins is their stupidly high fertility. Talking 2-6 live births every couple months.

Problem?

Those are for throwing at traffic. It's fun! :3

Throw enough goblins at any problem and it should go away. At the least, there'll be fewer goblins.

I didn't even think of sex aspects - seeing that dialogue, my brain just wants to hug both of them and tell them those people are stupid and reassure them that they belong. Both of them are perfectly attractive/cute in their own ways, but outside that neither is doing anything wrong by existing as gobbos.

Probably my 'tism immediately connecting it to things said about me or things seen said about other people known (LGBT/goth-fashion/anime fans/etc) but these gobbos need the huggos.

The fetish with goblins seems to be consistently that they hate themselves and their own race so much that they will become infatuated by the slightest bit of attention

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's just empathy. It came with your humanity license.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(Also, boy golly do I wish that empathy automatically came with the humanity license these days 😬 hooooooly smokes)

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to think that was all it was, yeah; but it turns out the difference is really fine-line.

With empathy, you feel something akin to what a person in another position may be feeling based on your interpretation of it from your own experiences, as what would naturally be a learned part of our social interaction.

With the 'tism "brain not automatically recognizing that I'm not the target", it's an instantaneous "this is happening to me right now", even *without* a relevant trauma trigger.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(Also, as for how we cope - since the brain never actually *gains* the "skill" involved of differentiating, there's always a brief emotional-adjustment window that we may learn to "mask" over time, while we adjust mentally to where the "ground" actually is vs where we instinctively interpreted it was. For me, I unconsciously learned to run simulations of a sort in my head of different things that could happen, prepping the brain with a pattern of action to shift into while it adjusts.)

is it an 'ism thing to feel sorry for them?

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No - sorry, should have explained that better.

One of the side details for 'tism is that our brains do not always differentiate between a thing happening to someone else and that thing happening to us on a subconscious emotional level.

So whereas a sort of normal person might be like "oh that was mean, that person shouldn't have said that, that wasn't nice of them", for me there's a part of my brain (under the unintentionally-learned masking of years undiagnosed) that *immediately* (1/2)

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No sorry needed. I was just curious because some of the 'ism meme hit a bit close to home, and i felt the exact way as you when I saw these.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

While the details are slightly different for everyone (spectrum etc), in my case digging into it and figuring it out explained a lot of things I get hung up on like textwall-detailing (fear of being misunderstood due to LOTS of being misunderstood over the years - due to not having an automatic feel/learn-by-observation of what the "rules" are of social interaction, and thus learning by trial and error) or frustration when I can't understand the mindset behind something (bigotry politics etc).

(2/2) feels as if it had been said to me directly, with the sharp pang of pain and all right that moment. It can also hit, like, hearing someone yelling at someone else, *knowing logically* that it has nothing to do with me/I'm not the target, but a part of me suddenly feels that shame/cringe-back/whatever reaction as if it targeted me, *without* a tie to specific past trauma etc. Got diagnosed in 30s, reframed a lot (also explained needing noise canceling headphones in movie theaters lol).

I think I need to see a psychologist to see if I'm autistic because that shit happens to me all the time. There are a few things I don't identify with but there's a lot I do identify with.

Was a bit difficult - my doctor initially wouldn’t go for testing (“they would have caught that when you were a kid” - not if we never tested for it or looked into it!), but fiancé’s psych helped with connecting dots for me. Always be mindful to keep options/beliefs open (so we don’t unintentionally come off as “diagnosis shopping”), but between that and my ADHD diagnosis/meds a few years ago, I’m a lot better with understanding/working with/forgiving myself to have better outcomes for health.
