If you're a foreigner giving advice, maybe do it from the mentality of giving a North Korean dissident advice on what to do, rather than thinking "Well shit, it works here... do that!"
Sounds good in theory. In practice, taking land mass and population into account, those examples would be akin to one of the bigger states ousting their governor.
Taking out a President of the EU would be more comparable.
Then Russia. Bigger than the US, ousted the czar and the communists in two separate revolutions. Under WAY worse, and WAY more dangerous, conditions than the US currently has.
Exactly. As frustrating as it is measured response is the only reasonable process. And without some kind of safety net for protestors or fighters, action will be hampered. The answer is to collectively create a safety net *for a general strike*. Until the US has that level of cohesion the process must be abou building coalitions, esp at the state level.
Most revolutions have caused thousands of deaths. Yet some succeeded. Not those that didn't even start because the people were too scared tho. Those times of non-revolution are being described in history books using words like complicit, passive, scared. At best, mostly the respective people are seen as well represented by their government. It's what the people apparently wanted then.
so. what are is your solution then? put your head into the sand? wait for the government to catch up? let me tell you, as a german that had to learn about nazi history most of school life, waiting is not the best option. millions died. what will you do if your neighbor has to hide in a hidden room behind the wardrobe?
Your imagination is so limited if Nazis are your narrative for what is happening.
The US has been dealing with these people since before the 1860s. They won in the 1870s and 1920s. They lost in the 1960s and will lose worse in the 2020s. We are a nation founded on slavery and genocide with aspirations of liberty and justice for all. It's a work on process, and I'm sorry that you're so frightened by a natural part of our nation.
It's an illusion to think the moral arc will always keep bending towards good. You guys might be in one of those situations that, in retrospect, will be seen as a bit of a bump in the road.
Or it might be the end of the road for the foreseeable future. That, too, happens. Generations living under a tyranny after it wasn't stopped while it was still emerging.
Yes, that has already happened. Reconstruction ended with Jim Crow.
It was nearly a century of disenfranchisement, political violence, apartheid, and mass slaughter. Coups were successful, churches were regularly bombed, and nearly five thousand people are confirmed to have been lynched. America has been in this kind of tyranny before.
This time, though, the Klan are unpopular, unorganized, and openly, deeply weird. To fear them is to surrender to them.
It most definitely has never before happened in the US. You don't know what you're talking about if you think any phase in US history compares to tyranny.
"work in progress" ... for 166 years now. how long do you want to wait? and why do you think i'm frightend? i do not have the fear to go grocery shopping and return with a bullet in me or detained for month without reason in a camp only god know where. i'm mostly sorry for the people who have to live through this and do not have the power to change it. it's not a work in progress. it's stagnation by design. it's the fear of progress and 50% of you "want to wait of progress"? i don't think so
Must be wild for Europeans to read these posts from americans crying about Europe being big meanie heads when they've spent the last 3ish years watching americans shit on russians for not overthrowing putin while he burns the country down. And now americans are doing the same thing while trump burns the country down.
It is. It's disheartening to see SO MANY Americans aggressively dismiss the possibility of doing something ("because we're so big!") and exaggerating the dangers as if all the European revolutions were against a bunch of fluffy rabbits. "But you don't get it, this time it might be dangerous FOR ME!"
And i thought we Europeans are the weak pussies, and the US was the home of the brave.
I live near the Twin Cities. I've never been more proud of my country than I am today, watching the resistance to Confederate occupation. Federal morale is breaking and we haven't even had to string up one thug. Nationalist extremism has been made toxic for at least a generation. I have hope that it might be a permanent change, especially after the camps in Texas are emptied. There will be a reckoning, but it will not be the lawless slaughter that everyone expects.
Just gonna say it, folks dying, is exactly what made the antiMAGAts lose their shit and have some of the largest protests nation wide, to date. So folks attacking ICE, and dying, is what we need to get this fucking shit party started. Otherwise, they're just gonna take and take, and take, and take, till someone actually starts fighting back.
Lemme be clear. When I say maybe we should do...literally anything to impede operations that isn't wiggling a sign and quietly leaving when the nazis tell you to leave, or throwing a dildo, or taking a pic of a bunch of unguarded ICE shit and wandering off. I'm saying that from the US, as an american.
Fuck you too. Sucks things are already violent. Sucks harder you're willing to watch. We need to be preventing them any way possible. That won't be pretty, no. Neither is what's already happening.
The enforcement agencies who are beating and torturing your most vulnerable are not afraid of you because you do not fight back. The moment they are met with resistance many will flee, because they are spineless cowards. Until then we will watch as you die like dogs 🤷
Is there a fucking international media blackout of what's happening inside of the US? Your perception is at least a month behind of the facts on the ground here, at least of what I'm seeing in the Twin Cities.
Lot of folks just do not understand how different the US is. Our gun culture is insane. Our traffic police carry guns. The US is freaking huge. And you'll find a rabid MAGA on every block, at the least. There is no one great united leftist front.
The protests in Georgia were amazing. If we pulled a fireworks gatling gun, every single protester would be a dead protester.
It really doesn't help that so many outside of the US are acting like this is a Nazi problem.
I'm on the ground near the Twin Cities and it's pretty fucking obvious that this is a Klan problem. We beat 'em in the 60s after mass lynchings and church bombings. This time, they ain't even strong enough to pull that off. They had to co-opt the state to even get this started. They're weak and losing. We win if we outlast them.
You know man, the reason we have the guns everywhere is specifically for shit like this, supposedly... A...are you not armed and trained? at this point? There was even a whole pandemic worth of time and a stimulus check to buy one... did you not understand the assignment? Are you not going to get me my 100 scalps?
The thing is, you don't need a united LEFTIST front, you need a united "citizens against authoritarian government front"; you need a united "American front" that does not carry foreign flags at their protests; you need a "respect the U.S. constitution and bill of rights" front. The fight is NOT for LGBT+ rights, woman's rights, PoC rights: it is for already-established legal rights. it is for Human Rights. It is for everybody's rights. Those rights are being trampled.
I'm pointing out that they're too scared to actually come out and suggest what they're getting at when the only punishment is losing an account on a dying website. The punishment we get for actually following their advice is literally thousands dead.
What you're doing is attacking the wrong people. Build community. Build safety nets. Come together. Don't blindly lash out at people. It makes you look like a boot licker.
Also, the worst kind of hypocrisy is all of the MAGAts who spent years screaming about a global cabal of pedophiles who are now silent.
I attack MAGA fucks plenty, if you care to go back through my posts. What's annoying me is "If enough of you jump in the woodchipper at once, it's gonna jam!" being the extent of the advice from folks in other countries. People who don't seem to get that we're literally being shot in the streets, and the first attack is going to result in literally thousands dead.
If not enough of us jump in the wood chipper, then we'll all get sent through eventually. That's how it works. WE'RE LITERALLY BEING SHOT IN THE STREETS. You seem to think that's not a serious problem. That's fine. Enjoy your sleep. You're fighting the good fight. Everyone else is wrong.
I realize that; you've pointed it out. Having their/our accounts suspended won't help much. What do you suggest we do - off ourselves in solidarity? We're offering suggestions to turn the tide before it gets worse. It *will* get worse. To be clear: More People Will Die.
I hope it's not too many and there will be a peaceful way out in this enlightened age, but what many remember from learning history is that the pages are sticky.
Put down your phone, walk over to the nearest window and open it. Stick your head out the open window and scream " I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" Repeat until you've passed out or the revolution has begun.
Unfortunately, I am. You comment sounds to me like you're saying "we can't do things a other countries do because we'll be shot". My answer to that is this, they're shooting citizens anyway, so make them pay for it by any means necessary.
I'm saying that the moment we resort to violence, all bets are off, and 2 people shot in the streets turns into thousands of people shot in the streets, and now we're up against the most powerful military in the world. Their suggestions only work against unarmed cops. I'm all for getting advice, but FFS, gear your comments more toward a North Korean dissident than your own country.
Sorry, but betting closed in January 2025. Thousands are going to be put down, shot or not, if no one acts to make the pigs show their hand and do their dirty work in the public eye. This isn't NK, and we are only a helpless as we wish to be. While I'd rather do neither, it's better to die on your feet than die on your knees.
People die to protect freedom everywhere in the world! For f sake the idea of the American army revolves around that idea (at least when soldiers die).
How many people do you think have died in Europe to protect democracy and freedom ?
You do realize that the second we pull something like a fireworks gatling gun, like the world saw with the protests in Georgia, thousands will die, within 15 minutes. Hundreds of thousands will die within the next 6 months. You know this right?
When I complained about social murder, they said they weren't killing people in the streets, it didn't count, when I fought against the systemic over-policing of marginalized communities, and money in politics, somehow that wasn't enough killings in the street, or corruption to act. Now the hogs are wearing masks and killing people in the street while LITERALLY BUILDING A GOLDEN FUCKING BALLROOM ON THE TORN DOWN WHITE HOUSE IN BETWEEN TRIPS TO RAPE ISLAND.

I'd say lots of Americans don't understand how similar things are, how not at all unique. A few examples.
Russia had two revolutions that overthrew their system. Russia is bigger than the US.
Not everyone had guns in the German revolution of 1918/19, but those from the right that took to the street did. Functionally no difference.
Most cops in most countries are armed. Including traffic police.
A united left is a very rare thing, and dangerous supporters of the other side always exist.
