That is, if you were lucky. If not, one of them just offed the other! (Try spending time in an old folks home and speak to some of the harmless looking little old ladies. I guarantee you a few of them solved their problems in a more direct manner than you'd think!)

No-fault divorce wasnt legal in all 50 states until 2010. Before then you had to prove specific marital misconduct in court, such as adultery, extreme cruelty, or abandonment. Something which was very difficult for women to do before 1974 because they didn't have control of finances as they couldnt open bank accounts, secure loans, and get credit cards without a husband's permission or a male co-signer before then.
