This is the work I have been putting together from my research for my speech class. The two biggest drops are from provisions that changed what made people have to report they were merging in 2000 and 2008.

Not DOJ, but I loved FTC's casual announcement that they were basically giving up on pre-closing HSR review, so good luck.

I do think it seems interesting though. As far as I can tell the two times they were getting overwhelmed previously Congress raised the cap.

Yeah the statutory mechanism for annual adjustment is kind of fucked because it's linked to GDP - at best a loose linkage w/merger voume
Mrkenjoe
I don't know what you mean?

Announced over the summer. Pre-merger investigations kept open indefinitely, even after the HSR waiting period. Like, in a blog post.

OMG, 2,795 YTD that is insane. they have the cap min at 92 million before you need to notice them. That is over a quarter billion in mergers
TheChunguskaEvent
And of course the 2021 cap *decreased*
Mrkenjoe
We have surpassed all merger numbers and are getting close to 2000 numbers. They don't have the lawyers or funds for that. 160 mill for all.
