I’ve had the pleasure of hearing him speak at a couple of movie screenings. And he is one of the most gleefully foulmouthed motherfuckers on the planet!

He had a good AMA on Reddit recently. I don't have a link handy though.

It is if your platform runs on marketers who think their target audience is straight out of the picture-perfect nuclear family from the 60's

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

AIs doesn't even create new creative content. its all copied. Cut out AI and go straight to the source.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Exactly!! And this is the point with *everything*. If you teach the next generation to use AI to write code or summarise articles or write a letter and so on, when the generations that know how to do that from scratch are gone, you have nothing new being added to the whole, it's all just eating itself and getting dumber in the process. It's the wall-e generation.

If those in dark rooms want art to die then it will die.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yep. Some studio will come along, maybe a start-up, grab a handful of 20yo’s doing Backrooms-like stuff on YouTube all alone with AI, sign them to contracts, give them a 10-person skeleton crew, and have them start shitting out movies as fast as possible. People will claim to hate it and everything it stands for, but enough will also still “be curious” enough to go see it, making it profitable. Then ALL the little eyes of Sauron floating above ALL the studios will turn towards it and smile.

Gendered AI?

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

On one hand, a lot of digital art tools I've been using for 20+ years are now being called AI. On the other, this new generative AI is absolute slop. If you're using the old tools in new ways, I'm fine with that. The new generative slop? Not a fan.

2 days ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Tools. Tools need an operator. A being that can make considered decisions. Ai isn't that.

The biggest mistake we made was letting the tech bros get away with lumping machine learning in with the generative bullshit. Machine learning has practical applications across a variety of fields, medical, technical and creative. It does tedious things that don't require the human touch, and does them much faster. If I could have a program generate perfect UV and weight maps for my Blender models, I absolutely would. GenAI is the plagiarizing, lying slop machine for the lazy and talentless.

I wonder how they see CGI, that took away from skills of set builders, props and handed it over to computers to fill in the gaps?

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

People still build for art. CGI is for things that *can't* exist with practical efx. CGI won't work without people who know how to operate<

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the actual software. Asking an Ai to make some efx for you is just like asking a guy in the street to do it with their stolen content.

But only sometimes

I think Tung Tung Tung Sahur should get a pass. AI might have generated him, but we gave him a soul.

You also download things that you think are AI whether or not they actually are or not

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 21

Unfortunately my dude, its getting harder every day and we'd rather be wrong, than to have AI slop get credit for anything.

2 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Right but I had a post I made get downvoted to hell even though I used Photoshop to make the short gif that I had

1 day ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Everything gets downvoted to hell, theres tons of bots. Unless you took to the comment section (which, would explain it tbh) theres no way to verify that its humans downvoting you, or robots.

Stop posting for the intent of getting internet likes and then basing your opinions on it. If you feel so inclined to share something, post it for that sake. Knowing you shared it. If people like it, neat. If not, it's not some great statement on anything.

Welcome to the internet.

All that matters is if people consume it. His opinion is irrelevant.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 32

Looks like people are consuming his opinion and not yours, so.....

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

so is yours

What an utterly miserable and detestable mentality. Your mind is fucking twisted if that's the only thing you think matters.

Seek professional help.

Looks like it

The comments in that reddit thread are insane. Thinking AI is just the new tech for movies and art is like thinking a woodchipper is the next step for circumcision.

2 days ago | Likes 209 Dislikes 3

Shame that Danny Boyle is already using it

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair, I wholly support spreading that idea, then encouraging all AIheads to get circumsised.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The comments on reddit are disappointing. I'm blown away at the stances they take. As if AI is the next tool that has to be adopted.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On the list of things I expected to read today, "... thinking a woodchipper is the next step for circumcision." was not on my bingo card. I regret can but upvote this only once.

2 days ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I like to think wood chippers are however..the next step in civilisation.

It detaches skill from the skilled, but brings no wisdom with it.

2 days ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

exactly why the techbros and c-suite executives want it: all of the "skill" without that pesky ability to say "no".

Gee, I wonder why the Republicans love it a lot too?

2 days ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Yep also the hack "commissioners" that always demand your art for less than you charge or to pay in "exposure"
Constantly shifting deadlines etx

No need to deal with pesky visual artists, writers or the like when you can have a machine shot out a worse version for free

2 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thing is, it really doesn't. It detaches effort from work. And replaces it with resources.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Except it really does.

You don't need effort for your work because you are taking the effort of other actually skilled artists and separating them from that skill to claim it as your own.

The skill of others, that they spent countless hours honing and acquiring the wisdom to use it effectively, is not a "resource" for you to use at your leisure.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The thing is, its not your fuckin content to decide. The learning, all of it, was illegally stolen from the artists. Nobody gave consent, nobody gave permission. So shut it all the fuck down. Good day sir.

I SAID GOOD DAY
