Musk can add +1 to everyone's SoCSec number int he database. Then every piece of paper you have that proves you are you, does not align anymore with what is in the database. In other words: you can not prove you are who you say you are. So no access to your own money. Can't even prove you are born in the USA. Guess who he'll use that against. This is legally useful for when it inevitably goes before the Supreme Court though. In the intervening time when he invariably fails to destroy the sensitive data, he will be in legal breach of a judge’s ruling. If Kav or Barrett join Roberts and liberals, it’ll be easier to pin him on an illegality. Or if scotus vacates their obligation to the constitution, then the grievances will be that much more clear for the people to redress. I’m gonna celebrate this as a good thing among a bigger fight

exactly. it establishes precedent moving forward. the suit was against the treasury department and stated they went outside statutory authority in granting doge access to that information. now other departments that receive requests can use the ruling to deny that access. it also establishes a legal argument that can be used in future cases. considering how long it can take cases to trickle up to the supreme court, it's definitely worth celebrating

Even if the Supreme Court, which has Trump purchased judges on it, where to find Trump, Elon, or even anyone guilty of anything, Trump would just pardon them. I wish it all could be good for something to protect us from them, but I don't think it will be.

ok so this is a civil case, not a criminal one, so no one will be found guilty of anything and there will be nothing to pardon. if this goes to scotus and they rule with musk, doge will just be able to access the data again

If it is made illegal to access the data and they choose to do it anyway, that would be illegal and punishable by law. Without the punishment, the law is irrelevant. At the point when a guilty verdict would lead to punishment, that is when Trump will pardon whoever broke the law. He will continue to pardon anyone who breaks any law to carry out his orders. Nothing will change. This is why I don't see any good coming from the process. I wish there was though.

OK I get where you're coming from, but that's just not how administrative law works. there is no chance this will end up in a criminal court, so there is nothing pardonable. any punishment, should we actually get there, will be civil and not criminal
