A day in the life of a trucker (23 July, 2026)

Hey oh, hey oh, how dee oh! We're here in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to start things off today.

So, first, let's head down to the work site, about twenty minutes from here, give or take.

This was a fairly simple offload.

I parked on the side of the road.

And they simply hooked those pipes and got them off the trailer. Boom, and boom. Done.

Now, let's go load some tractors.

And for some fuel a little further, granting me a free shower.

That's the thing about working, and almost living, on the road. You don't always have access to showers, services, or even the basics. And a lot of the time, there are places that are simply impossible to get into with a truck.

You quickly learn to adapt, make do with what you've got, and plan ahead as best you can. That's just part of the lifestyle. That's why I say to people who would like to drive trucks "because they like driving"...yeah, driving is the fun part. When the weather is nice.

That's why I carry everything I might need with me on the road, just in case. I'm equipped pretty much the same way I'd be if I were heading out camping deep in the woods. I always assume I'll have to rely entirely on what I have with me, and I never expect things to be simple or easy.

I normally carry enough supplies to be self-sufficient for at least ten days without access to anything, and that includes, but not limited to, food, extra clothes, basic hygiene items, water, blankets, and emergency gear.

Working on the road taught me pretty quickly to be completely independent.

And that's it for today. There was a change in loading/offloading and I initially thought I could go further today. But, no.

That orange tractor I loaded earlier drops just down the highway from here, and I'll load some piece of equipment at the same place before continuing.

So, stopping here for the night.

Still no Tumilik today. I won't be home until tomorrow afternoon. So, in the meantime, here are some red pandas.
