My mom got mad if we brought chalk into the pool.

Yea I always do that and if my shot is bad I add twice the amount of chalk next time

It's all about looking cool let's be honest. I do actually know what I'm doing but really it's not important enough to correct people.

The tip is hardened leather. Chalk increase friction which prevents the cue from sliding around the cue ball instead of pushing through it.

Not all tips are leather, mines pigs skin. Kamui makes sine really awesome tips.
