So here is the deal, as of right now with the majority votes counted. Trump is winning popular vote, and the election overall. However, he has less votes as the winner in 24' than he did as the loser in 20', and by a few million...Harris even only has about 1-2 mil more than Hilary did in 16', despite pop growth and changes in electorate
This means turnout sucked. This was very winnable for Dems, even a smaller hill than in 20'. But yet again, the Democratic Party just picks their candidate, even if that means forcing Bernie and other viable candidates out. They forced Biden to bow out and made everyone toe the line to support Kamala. There is reason she didn't do well in the 2020 primary, and it's cause she simply doesn't drive turnout. Democrats have a real branding issue and they need to fix it fast. The MAGA heir Vance or DTjr is gonna run and the Dems need a better brand than "we aren't Trump, pick the one not named Trump"

Having a decent platform would also be nice. Healthcare, public welfare, non-genocidal foreign policy, etc. Then people might give a shit.

To an extent I agree. The fault isn't Kamala's as much as you seem to indicate. Dems have had a decades long issue with being on the side of issues that 70-80% agree with but not continually hammering these points over and over and over until they sink in and the people who are casual voters have picked up on them.
At the same time the fact that half the voting age population didn't bother to vote and a huge chunk of the ones who did vote believe a conman over the literal experts is fucked up.

I'd have taken the chance with Harris over "Well, at least we tried" Biden every time, but fuckin' hell. Why Democrats thought they could just do nothing with candidates for four years and then try pushing Biden again after that debate performance, I have no idea.
The party's slogan should be "Maybe we'll learn this time!"
Nacon
Dude.... I see that tag. What make you think we'll have another election after this? Do you really think he'd let us vote again? That fucker cheated and you all fucking know it.
YeroctheBarbarian
Well let’s look at this objectively. Kamala is better spoken. She spoke about issues concerning Americans. And successfully or not she did try to reach across the aisle. Trump relied largely on personal attacks and wasn’t a great speaker. Trump had so many things against him ranging from felony convictions to his love of dictators. So the question is what could Kamala have done differently that would have made a difference? It seems like Trump had no standards held to him and Kamala could have>

Kamala's real problem is that this country is full of stupid racists and sexists and in todays America a half black half Asian woman with name people keep saying KA-ma-la instead of Kalm-Ala who is from San Fran, the single largest bastion the right decries as "liberal city" was never gonna drive turnout in this election.
I said this same shit in the summer when Biden dropped. You run Harris as the candidate, you're gonna lose.
FiftyShadesOfTiramisu
It's not the fault of the Democratic party that America is such a cesspool of racists and misogynists. When Americans reject an excellent, extremely qualified Black woman candidate in favor of a senile, grossly unqualified old bigot, rapist and convicted felon, even though the first candidate was not only the vastly better economic choice and would have worked to preserve women's and minority rights but even threw in LEGAL CANNABIS to sweeten the deal, this isn't something the Democrats did wrong
FiftyShadesOfTiramisu
If there is one other major factor that contributed to this, it would be the same misleading media hype that we've seen in 2016. The billionaire-owned media pulled the same old trick and gave everyone the impression that women got this in the bag. Women brought their daughters to vote for the first time, Trump just HAD to lose with all these pissed-off women voting for Kamala. And it worked, just like it did the first time. There needs to be a reckoning for this too.
FiftyShadesOfTiramisu
You now know you can no longer fight the billionaire class at the voting booth. They need to go down by other means.
whateverthevoicestellme
I agree it’s their fault, but Kamala had all the good will and proved to be a better fighter than Biden. All the people I saw who didn’t vote dem were enraged about Gaza. We had protests around the country for a year and the dems didn’t even let a palestinian speak. They censored protest. They went full fash so to a lot of folks there were fascists on both sides. I’m not dumb enough to fall for what was very likely a full Kissinger manuever, but a lot of people did and the dems did nothing.
IrrationalNumber
Yes, we need to turn against the Democratic party now. Applaud in the streets when the military is sent in to round them up. That's the way out of this mess, right?

On the plus side, we wont have to worry about fucking the 2028 election: there wont be one

I wouldn't blame the Dem party for this. I'll blame the hundreds of millions who either voted FOR Trump, or didn't vote AGAINST Trump.
INeverReadTheTOS
Like, no matter how lame the Dem party is, I have far more hatred in my heart for the people who thought "Who cares if the fascist wins and people die... at least I, personally, won't suffer!"

Kamala's campaign fucked this up. They didn't do enough to portray themselves as antiwar and to show support of Palestine. They banked on the women's rights votes being enough and it wasn't, apparently.
If they would've condemned Israel more for committing genocide, I think they would've had a better chance.
NerdyBliss
The other guy literally said he want Israel to :finish the job", if you are middle eastern and you didn't vote due to this administration stance on Palestine then don't be surprised when the other guy allows Gaza to rebranded as New Israel.
Rainbowdaesh
Doubt it. The people that stayed home over Palestine would have found another excuse to stay home.
But hey, everyone that stayed home because of Palestine means that the genocide there is over right!
SaveitforQueenDoppelpoppolus
joe biden was the most progressive president the US has ever seen; he took huge political hits to advance progressive legislation, and the response from you "progressive" bernie supporters was to call him genocide joe and promise to never vote for him. the lesson that you should take from this is that the democrats will never listen to "progressives" again. the 2028 democratic nominee is going to be joe manchin or someone who makes joe manchin look leftist, and the reason is entirely you
Rainbowdaesh
Not the most progressive the US has ever seen, but easily the most progressive domestically since LBJ.
SaveitforQueenDoppelpoppolus
you could make an argument that, for instance LBJ, was more progressive relative to his time than biden - i think that's still wrong but it's a fair argument and probably not one that can actually be resolved. LBJ was also more successful legislatively given the makeup and dynamics of his congress. but its unequivocally true that biden was more progressive in absolute policy terms than any other US president.
Rainbowdaesh
I mean, the civil rights act is unparalleled in modern times and that's not even counting all the things he did to combat extreme rural poverty and education.
I'm not trying to diminish Biden here, he's easily been the most progressive president in my lifetime and I was born in 81, but I gotta give it up to LBJ.
