I tend to doubt that most Christians believe in the Trinity or the Resurrection of the Bodies of all that have ever died, but there it is, in the Apostle's Creed.

true, but I have found that kind of cherry picking the only redeeming quality in religious people around here.
Growing up with an catholic education I rejected, I held a very deep dislike towards it. Which was problematic given the importance it still had back then here. But those people I would have actually called religious were usually the ones that did exactly that. And cherry picked the positive aspects from the (their) bible, while dismissing negative and harmful statements as outdated

I was even surprised when I made theological acquaintances. Because they emphasized even more the complexity of such an old convoluted book written over time. Their discussions were more philosophical and about ethics, than actual religion and whatever the vatican is doing.

And as such, the special brand of "christianity" the US has marketed has always struck me as especially vile and repulsive. Me, an atheist.

Jesus was a Jewish reformer that never believed in or once talked about hell

You are thinking of Dante and his Inferno thanks Catholic Church

Martin Luther wanted reform Jesus wanted reform

Religious zealots hungry for power gave us the new religions

Hell Judaism is just a mix of Cananite and Egyptian religion and Jews are from the land of Canan

Magic, the supernatural, religion, everyone knows deep down its all made-up bullshit. Every fucking person on the planet has phones now. Still no real video of anything paranormal or divine in decades of people filming everything they can. Grow the fuck up people, you are adults and this is fucking embarassing.

You can't assume that every book in the Bible carries the same message, there were multiple authors and editors across centuries. Which emphasizes your point even more, I think.

That is definitely true. The multiple different versions of Jesus' life story were meant to market the religion to different demographics, and for most of them the earliest copies we have are from hundreds of years after he supposedly lived.

Meanwhile, Bill and Ted's basic message is "Be excellent to each other," a far superior story.

Also it had George Carlin. A far superior Jesus.

I actually disagree with the last panel, given how many of the fire and brimstone ones are pro-greed and especially in favor of using religion to accumulate wealth for themselves, which is the only thing that (according to the Bible) pissed Jesus off enough to engage in physical violence.

Not a good book by any means, but the "sermon on the mount is woke nonsense" crowd is honestly the worst when it comes to cherry picking it.

I've never understood why Christians exist. Jesus was Jewish. Isn't that like... confirmation that Judaism is correct if you think he's special? Did he say to create a new religion after him? I just feel like if I thought a dude was God, I'd be the religion he is.

Not entirely. There are a number of topics that Jesus explicitly discussed in the gospels that revise or contradict tenants from Judaism. It's why the old testament is part of both the Christian Bible and the Hebrew one, but Christianity generally treats the new testament as superseding it. That's why most Christians don't follow dietary restrictions, as one example.

Get what you mean, but it gets complicated when "Dude you thought was God" is not really accepted by Judaism. So if you think Dude is God, you sort of have to find a different way to connect than through a religion that doesn't accept Dude. Christians lives from 2000 years ago probably would have looked a whole lot more like Judaism of the time.

Jesus exists to bridge the gap between the divine and the mortal. He lived as an avatar of God so that he could experience humanity, suffer for it, and teach about avoiding damnation.

That was the intent of Jesus. He's got similarities to previous Gods, especially Osiris who died and was resurrected. Lots of heroes went into death and back. It helps show that God has an idea of what that's all like and can understand our puny existence.

I'm an atheist BTW. I don't need the "religion is dum."

In the name of "picking one's battles" I choose not to beef with moderate Christians, moderate Muslims, etc. if we're on the same page enough politically.

Fuck all of them. Every single religious zealot. I don't care how "peaceful" or "benign" they are, and I certainly don't give a fuck if they're "moderate." Religious is stupid, harmful, and a blight on our species as a whole. Fuck it and everyone who kowtows to it.
