My mother inherited this box from her father. We have no idea what its purpose is...

It is solid silver with some hallmark engravings.

When flipped open it has this funny content with the lid containing to bits that flip upwards, line some table trestles.

I ate the last banana.... So here is a lemon for scale.

The circular bit unscrews and leaves this small opening... What is this thing?!

I do know those look like Silver hallmarks and you can look up each one to know the date, location, and builder!

If I understand correctly, the lion means .925 sterling, the shield indicates what town it was made in and the K is a date code.
