This is me and my wife, where she needs to play a new game every week it seems, and I finally gave up trying to enjoy anything, because the moment I start enjoying a game, we're moving on to the next. And I also forget everything each time. Just a trauma data dump to clear space for the next set of info I need to ingest. Its fucking exhausting.

WoW is complete trash now. I tried picking it back up, and it was going fine... Then they dropped an update that "squished" stats and it completely ruined my fun. Suddenly I couldn't even take on 1 enemy solo that was a few levels higher and my hunter pet would get one shot. I gave it a few days to see if they would fix their fuck up... I cancelled my sub and see no reason to go back if that's how they treat players.

I'm very lucky apparently. My brother got me into Minecraft about 14 years ago, we bpth kept playing casually over the years. Now we started a Realm with my kids where we exclusively play sessions with all 4 of us. Great fun, we get to share all our nerd knowledge and they get to brag to their friends what complicated farms they can build.

Or do ffxiv, it gives you the base game and first 3 expansions free with minimal limitations. (Trial accounts have some social limits to keep bots using the trial from annoying people)

The current DM in me cries. I keep getting so close to hosting a game and then someone either decides not to (time) or fails the vibe check (look I am not DMing for the dude who screams in Fortnite) or some other reason and I never have a group together. Just got the Avatar TTRPG cause I want to use it as a base to tell my own stories. BUT A GROUP! AGH! I wish I met more cool people who have free time and the will to commit to 2-3 months of weekly meets to do ONE CAMPAIGN! I AM IN CAM-PAIN!

Yes, it's in presale as far as I know. I had a group going pretty solidly for about a year before Covid hit, and had enough material written for another four years. Someday I'll think about doing it again....

Surprised he's into WoW, but I guess he his a child of his parents. Otherwise, removing The Child's device and whipping out a classic console for Ye Olde Gaming is a quality option. "See, back in my day, we had to either be on the same screen at all times or take turns playing!" (Also, respect for covering the different game/character art styles. WoW versions when?)

I miss WoW, but the WoW I miss is from before Activision took over Blizzard.
I don't think there's any going back for me. I explored all the maps, got Loremaster in Cataclysm on both sides, and did all the holiday achievements, then let it expire for good. If its gotten better since the pandas, I'm not sure I still care.
FF14 was nice. Grabbed a sub long enough to get through Endwalker, but last year was *definitely* the wrong time to go through a plot line about fighting despair incarnate...

Wow can't even be called a shadow of its former glory. You get shoved into content that you can't even go through solo. They keep doing squishes that only affect YOUR character and not NPCs. Everything comes at you waaayyyy too fast. They ruined heirlooms and progression and the skill trees. Hunter pets are utterly useless. The last time wow was good was cataclysm and mists of Pandaria. Pandaria was probably my favorite map lookswise

Basically how I see it, too. I gave Cataclysm a shot - and in fairness it wasn't *horrible* - but it just kept declining with almost every patch, and it's not like any of the announcements for Pandaria made it look like that was going to improve anything soon. I've heard its had some local peaks since, but its glory days are definitely far behind it.

Yeah same. I played a bit of cataclysm and Pandaria, they weren't bad, just not as good. The Skilltree change in Pandaria was the final nail for me i think. Stopped after Pandaria and never looked back

Knowing what we now know about WoW (Steve Bannon invested tens of millions of dollars into running the illegal gold farming ring known as IGE and used that position as a launch pad to radicalize young prospective voters in the mid 2000s, to great effect), I'm not sure that I would recommend that. Keep your kids out of online spaces until they're at least 18, I'd say.

I used to play on a server where bots were hireable, so you could basically solo the game. Raids were a different cut of cloth tho, people only invited real people to join raids. I loved that server.

plus, building hype, world of warcraft for me was awesome, my first character was a night elf and just walking around Teldrassil was mind blowing. specially back in 2008ish. becoming a whips and jumping off the side of Teldrassil to see how far I could get, or playing Paladin Chicken with my friends. (Its when you jump from a high place and bubble at the last second)

Idk, playing Everquest and WoW growing up as "family time" made me hate MMORPGs. It feels equivalent to the punishment of forcing a kid to smoke a whole pack to make them never smoke again.
I tend to avoid anything MMO nowdays.
