The only people i know who go to burning man are pretty well off if not full-blown filthy rich. So anecdotally to me anyway, there seems to be something to this

I heard it was good when it started but as it grew famous it attracted all the dipshits and now it's just a LARP festival for influencers and rich fucks.

By that same logic so are gyms. They are places built to artificially simulate manual labor that the modern world has made obsolete (as long as your born into the "right" culture and have the systemic backing to never consider one of "those" jobs).

Definitely. You can read about working in an office and people will say going to the gym is a must. Working on your feet all day moving boxes and the gym is a waste of time and money.

Not really, many people in gyms already work physical jobs . And rest are at least doing it to be healthy . This is performative hardship . Even the recent “disaster” is overblown. I’d say some are there for the same reasons that burning man was founded for but I’d also say it ended being about anything worthwhile when one of the founders immolated himself in protest of the fest losing its way.

I used to be really into the rave scene like 15-20 years ago and most of these things, festivals etc, used to have a really good vibe. they were often word-of-mouth only and they were some of the best days. Burning Man now looks like one more packaged aesthetic sold to, bought by and then sold back by richer and richer people. Depressing

#metoo a veteran candy raver myself. Hence why I dropped out of my senior year of high school to run away on that sonic highway/trainwreck at times. I'm most proud of Dance Safe which was a first of its kind anywhere in the world. Today it still saves lives everywhere in the world

Yep. I used to love seeing photos & videos from the Burning Man about 10 years ago. There was just so much anarchist creativity around. But nowadays it looks mostly like a slightly tweaked carbon copy of Coachella.
