Absolutely this is a huge misunderstanding. Gorillas have a different facial muscular. A happy gorilla has a relaxed face

That they are unhappy. Gorillas have a very different facial muscular structure than us. A happy gorilla is one with a relaxed face

I cannot answer for all zoos. There are some zoos that have skewed views on animals. Our zoo puts our animals first for sure

That's a shame. All aza accredited zoos are good and meet the highest standards of animal care. As a zoo keeper the animal comes first
