Climate change is our fault after all.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in the desert here and that's nice weather. It's about 48.9°C lately according to my car. Also, Europeans, I love you so much but please think twice about coming to the desert in summer. It's incomprehensibly hot and tourists die every single year. Between the heat and the monsoons, you have to be much more careful than you're probably thinking.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Safe for most healthy heat loving people when DRY. It very much is not nice or even safe when very humid.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Put it in freedom units.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That guys hand is probably burning.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crow will remember this.

13 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lies! The US does not have temperatures in reasonable units!

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the Americans, that's about 100F.

22 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That crow will remember his deeds

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For those of us who can't translate that into Freedom Units: 38°C = 101°F

11 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love when animals are smart enough to realize that yes, we are big. But most of us are willing to help if asked.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Translation: "Look. Look how hot the birds are. Drink young one, but make it quick cause I'm thirsty too bro".

100.4 F

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Scrolled to find this haha

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

cats will do that too

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some day that man will be in trouble, and out of nowhere a murder of crows will arrive from the desert to save him in his moment of need.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That'll be one shiny, please.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AZ? UT? NM?

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This looks like the Devil’s Garden trailhead in Arches national park, UT. I was there just a couple weeks ago and yeah: hot as hell and tons of corvids at the water fountains.

It's got Garden of the Gods vibes (Colorado Springs, CO) but I can't place the spot on Google Maps.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always updoot birbs

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whoa, was not expecting hearing Polish. Quite funny (rough translation): "Look how hot birds are. Drink young one. But.. you know.. I want to drink too, so make it quick, pal"

1 day ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 0

This was a bit more difficult to peg as Polish since it was missing the "kurwa"

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not everyone here uses it instead of comma ;-)

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

he'd murder for a drink

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I leave dog bowls (or similar vessels) under public water taps here in Australia, kinda for dogs, but moreso for birds during the hot weather.

1 day ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

why tho? the dogs here just drink from the same faucet as do the humies... not at the same time

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well although they can, it's obviously easier for a dog to drink from a bowl rather than capturing it from the tap; it's also more convenient in parks so they always access water without requiring their owner to operate the tap. As said though, this also means there's a reasonably reliable fresh water souce birds (and other creatures) can access, particularly during the hotter weather which is notorious for causing heatstroke in animals, resulting in many thousands of birds in particular dying.

Hark the crow, gimme mo'

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good human.

1 day ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Can tell the intelligence of the corvid, Bird knew the button made the water come out, just cannot push it on its own. location is probably something like Death Valley, still morning if only 38c.

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Two days ago here in South Dakota the feels like temp hit 121 fucking degrees. Walking outside felt like getting wrapped in a damp blanket straight from the oven.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like that's a pretty normal temperature for the landscape I'm seeing.

1 day ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It is. Still really dry though. The fun part is when it gets really hot and the cold water comes out hotter than the hot because the lines aren’t buried very deep

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Man I'd love the chance to make friends with a corvid. Ngl, I would try snack for paper money thing I've seen here before. Probably even be ok with quarters.

1 day ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

I’ve got one at work that I sneak our duck food to. I’m hoping we become friends.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A friend of mine has been making friends with his local crows for four generations now by putting out peanuts for them while walking with his dog.

1 day ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I've been watching my neighbour hood crow family teach their fledglings how to eat shelled peanuts this summer. Quite entertaining 🥜

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My husband just started doing this!

1 day ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This makes your husband a good person, which will be just as well when he arises to subjugate us all beneath the wings of his dark army.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sadly illegal to own, but legal to make friends with.

1 day ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Good thing you can’t own living things anyways

1 day ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Could one say... You own yourself? Or is that weird.

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It kind of sounds like autonomy, both body and mind, I guess entire self autonomy? IDK if it's weird but I like it

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not owned. I'm perfectly calm.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would guarantee that Crow knew how to get the fountain to work. It just couldn't.

1 day ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 1

Yeah, it actually pointed at the button

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I tend to agree, it seems to be pointing towards the button. Birds in the crow families are smart, observant and good at puzzle solving.

1 day ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

Better than a not insignificant percentage of humans. Not joking. I've seen how quickly some corvids solve problems that I would struggle with.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There should be a button there that requires less force to push.

1 day ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A bird button.

1 day ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

But that button is for the birds!

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just in case: this is a crow. Ravens are bigger than people think

1 day ago | Likes 300 Dislikes 3

"...and the evening had been going so well..."

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a raven. In the deserts of western USA there are common ravens and chihuahuan ravens but not crows.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good rule of thumb is;
"Is that a raven?" = crow
"HOLY SHIT that is a HUGE badass crow!" = raven

1 day ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Ravens got lil beards, unlike crows aswell

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some species of ravens are the same size than common crows. This one is a raven, the thick beak shape and that sound especially -> raven.

1 day ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yep I have crows near me about the size of ravens and have to use their calls, lack of beard, and beak shape to know they're crows

18 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Crow lands on your hand, Raven lands on your shoulder. Crow caws for food, Raven says "Give me food." And you do so in fear and concern.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ape and Monkey, Butterfly and Moth, Alligator and Crocodile, Turtle and Tortoise, Wasp and Hornet…

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is a Chihuahuan raven. They are approximately the same size as the common crow.

As someone else pointed out, you can tell by the bill.

Most Ravens have a large, curved bill while crows have a smaller, slimmer bill.

1 day ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

I thought the bill looked like a Raven - thanks

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks you - I stand corrected! But I can't edit my message anymore :-(

1 day ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I have it on pretty good authority that that is a chicken.

1 day ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What if I think they're as big as skyscrapers? huh?

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ravens are bigger than people.
Think.

1 day ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Ravens are huge 😳

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, although most people think small.

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The tip I've heard for remembering is: If you ask "Is that a crow or a raven?" it's probably a crow.
If you go "Holy shit look at the size of that bird!" it's probably a raven.

1 day ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 0

From seeing a raven, that is correct!

1 day ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The saying around here is, "A Crow is a bird with a beak, but a Raven is a beak with a bird."

1 day ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

If it says "Nevermore" it's a raven.

1 day ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Elenor?

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats so raven thing to do.

Some crows can talk a bit. I remember a story involving one in GB that spoke in a thick accent saying something akin to, "fuck off".

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad jokes that there are only three species of birds; tweet tweets, quack quacks and eagles.

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I like that joke, I am going to borrow it to annoy the kids!
Please tell your dad thank you from me!

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any idea what language the fellow is speaking? (the camera holder, not the bird)

1 day ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

CAW!

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Polish

1 day ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

The bird is speaking Cawish.

1 day ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Polish,
"O, look, how hot it is for the birds"
"drink, drink young fellow"
"but you know... I also want to drink so be brief dude"
I don't understand what crow is saying though

1 day ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

Probably something like "oh, thank you, big one"

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

prolly something along the lines of "could you open the water, please? oh gods, thank you bro! I was about to die from thrist!"

1 day ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You don’t speak Crowation?

1 day ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

He needs a translator

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know Mallard quite well (it's just few signals) and a bit of Great/Blue Tit language, but Corvid languages are too complex for me and I don't know any of them personally.
and I'm not joking

That’s a really interesting video. Thank you for sharing!

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

majority of mallard communication is non verbal, and a flock tends to operate like a single entity, where you can see activation function rising, and then somehow they all know what to do (they do operate in cycles so maybe it's just proceed to next step in some way/ break for obvious alarm)
