This was my Dr Who. It's still a joke in the family always mentioned at family gatherings that when I was 5 or 6, I asked in front of everyone "Why does the weird thingy (Daleks) have a toilet plunger for an arm?" and everyone broke down in a roar of laughter.

My partner went to London for a week with my Daughter and asked if I wanted her to bring anything home. I said if you see anything Dr. Who that would be great. She returned home and said she couldn't find anything but hoped I liked the Jelly Babies she bought from a local shop. She had no idea how well she did.

#3 true story: in 2009 a kid came to my door on Halloween dressed as Peter Davidson in his "The Fifth Doctor" suit, down to the celery stalk used as a boutonniere. I asked him, incredulously (we lived in Los Angeles) if he was The Fifth Doctor and he lit the fuck up. Yes! He turned to his parents, patiently waiting at the end of my walkway. "See?!? I TOLD YOU someone would get it!!"

Look closely and you’ll see that Tom Baker is a wax figure in this photo. He was busy working on something when this photo was taken, so they (iirc) borrowed his wax statue from Madame Tussaud’s museum.

I believe it was taken on the set of the Five Doctors, which was filmed shortly after Baker was replaced; he wasn't happy about it at the time, and refused to be a part, so they used a still photo and some old dialog to add him in.

I really loved watching British TV and especially Dr. Who despite growing up in Germany ... especially when cable / satellite TV became available in the mid-80s ... Saturday morning cartoons (Transformers, MotU, ...) was awesome ... also SciFi in the 70s / 80s was way different

The BBC made a drama about the creation of Doctor Who a few years ago, called An Adventure In Space And Time. It was the last ever show recorded at the BBC TV Centre before they moved out and it was redeveloped. It also has a lot of the original actors playing cameos, Will Russell as a security guard, and starred David Bradley as William Hartnell.

My parents loved this because I was a loud kid and ran around like crazy but when this came on channel 2 in Boston, I would sit transfixed and the video, music, and show made me quiet for hours.

#1 Fun fact: the 4th Doctor's ridiculously long scarf was because they gave a costume designer a bunch of differently colored yarn and asked her to knit a multicolored scarf. They thought she'd use a bit of each skein to make the scarf. When they checked on the progress, they found out she had used ALL the yarn to make it 20 feet long.
