Hard to find a home

Jul 19, 2021 8:55 AM

On mobile, so there may be spelling errors. Venting so this may be long.

I rent, like many. The housing market is crazy where I'm at, so, a lot of landlords are selling their homes out from under their tenants. I'm only of those people. I don't have the money to buy a home, hell I don't really have the money to put down a deposit with such short notice.

Every place I apply to has an application fee, and they range from $25-150 and they keep the fee. So I have limited ability to apply and there are so many people needing to rent that I've been denied every place. No explanation, they just took someone else. I know it wasn't personal.

I have two cats, which makes rental hard, too. If I can't find a place, there are people I would entrust them to.

I've had depression my whole life. 40 years. I've fought against the voices in my head for so long. But if life takes my cats away from me, you know what? That's it. I'm done. I've drawn my line in the sand. If life makes me have to give up these sweet boys, then life is telling me that it doesn't want me here anymore. And it's no longer a fight I am willing to fight.

So that's it. This is the hill I am quite literally prepared to die on. Hug your pets, you never know how long you have left with them.

Thanks for letting me vent if you got this far.

This sounds awful. I can't believe you're charged such a fee to just apply! Fingers crossed for a decent place for you and your fur babies.

I moved to abroad and had to leave my kitty behind for 5 months. Now if we need to move he watches me closely. Things will work out.

I'm applying for a night shift job so I can keep going to college, my free time will be less than 8 hours long, since my course is full time

And if I don't get this, I don't really know how I'm going to get by next month, I'm only 21. I hope we can find a way to work this out

Application fee for renting a house? What the actual fuck?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Application fee to be considered, pay to throw your name into the bowl.

It's this sort of shit that makes me think that suicide is a waste (compared to homicide).

Keep plugging away man. You’ll find the right place for you and your boys. Are there services you can access in your area?

I wish I could help. I would be in a similar boat if not for the charity of family. I'm still not convinced the fight is worth it.

I'm in a similar place, tired of the struggle. 40+ years of it. If I can't find a way out by the end of this year I'm done. Good luck.

This may sound strange but I would gladly pay for an application fee of atmost 40$ for a pic of your cats :D. Pm me if you are interested.

Once person's fetish helps another pay their bills

You pay an application fee to view a house for renting? What the actual fuck? Is this normal everywhere in the US?

Must fucking suck dude. If you do decide to go out, make sure it’s with a bang. Make the people who signed the laws that created your system

pay with the things THEY love.... in the hopes that the likely thousands in your position may have a better chance than you.

You pay the fee after you view it. If you want to rent, they charge an app fee to do background checks. It's egregious, nickle and diming

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That’s fucking insane. So, in high demand areas, it’s probably more profitable to just take the service charges and never rent the place?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Potentially. There are protections in place, but difficult to enforce. eg, minority with good credit, no felonies; you can sue them

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha yea, I mean the protections that ARENT difficult to enforce are ignored, so, I can imagine how this must go. Genuinely disgusting!

I know shit is bad but having the ultimatum being killing yourself is an awful way to treat yourself and your cats.

Why is this downvoted?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Because its looking down on the post. No shit wanting to doe is bad, clearly thats not a good thing. Depression is fucked and some deal

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

With it for life, day in, day out year after year after decade. Sometimes, for some, they can't take it. Usually there is

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A line they draw, this seems to be theirs. So no shit its not good, but its not for lack of caring.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's not looking down at all. It's reminding them that there are reasons to stick around and to try to treat themselves better. I'm suicidal
