Black marks episode 6 of the Etch A Sketch color of the day series!
I've had this stack of Etch A Sketches chilling on the floor of my office since late 2025 so needless to say I'm thrilled that I can finally move that stack to more sensible homes, haha.
For those who have been paying super close attention, you'll notice that I have yet to do the red episode. Why? Because I'm afraid! Okay? There's just too many red ones! I'm scared! Someday I'll muster the gumption to pull the scores of red variants out of my archives, but in the meantime I firmly intend on constructively procrastinating by covering other colors.

Alas - nope! Honestly the company that makes Etch A Sketch is probably not all that happy that I talk about their foreign competition, lol. A long time ago I had a meeting with some people at Spin Master and they told me they weren't a big fan of me using hashtags on Instagram for telecran and other foreign variants. In my mind I was thinking, "I'll stop if you pay me to stop" lmao. I've done a little work with Spin Master though and it's been great!

I love that line. "I'll stop if you pay me!" Frankly exclusivity and proper advertisement of a single company SHOULD be paid. And given your obvious joy in your hobby, I'm not so sure you'd even want to mix work and pleasure. Curious what you think about that. (This from a guy who's 35 year old hobby became a spare time business and I wish it hadn't. :)

My life has in many ways become a mix of business and pleasure, because my career has been in Etch A Sketch artistry for almost a decade. I think that's a reason why I so enjoy making these collection videos though. They don't pay bills (every now and then I get a little ad revenue from them though which helps justify the hours it takes to film and edit them). I don't regret making my hobby my career, but it comes with a lot of baggage!

it's definitely thanks to my early penchant for Etch A Sketch! I would draw on it a lot when I was young and it became an easy gift for bdays/xmas/etc. Then it just kept growing haha

That batman etch-a-sketch is just wild for so many reasons. Why is it so DANG LARGE? It's not even shaped like a bat, it's just got the vague hint of it from the bottom shape, which I feel like would get in the way of using the knobs? As for why it's got voice lines, that's odd enough on it's own, but do they play both from a dedicated button OR any time you turn a knob? Holy cow that would get annoying to draw on if it was just constantly yapping at you. Thank you for another wonderful entry!

It looks like that Batman one is from 2005, so the answer to why it's so large is that the cheapest electronics they could find to power it were big, and they still needed to fit a whole working etch a sketch in there.

I *still* don't understand the Batman Etch A Sketch. I cannot for the life of me figure out a consistent way to trigger any of the lines. Sometimes it's as soon as I turn it on. Or when I shake it. Or when I turn a knob. And it's almost always, "Let's just say, I'm no longer the only bat in town." Why? I don't know. I actually was about to switch out the batteries (like THAT would have made a difference) and it kept spamming the Gotham line off-camera of course. It drives me batty!
