I've lived in both, things are far worse corruption wise in Africa. In a functioning society, most things work. In a corrupt society, most things don't. Water for only a few hours a day, electric goes out daily, no governmental support for the disadvantaged, no healthcare for the majority even if you could get it. A little public pressure goes a long way here in the USA, it does almost nothing in West Africa.
