Tesla worked for Edison! FFS, stop trying to rewrite history

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 10

You're leaving out the part where Edison never paid Tesla the money he owed him.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Don't forget Joseph Swan getting stiffed aswell.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A good read and dispels this nonsense pretty throughly. https://geekhistory.com/content/nikola-tesla-versus-thomas-edison-and-search-truth

/Apple, but all we hear about is the success of Bill Gates or Steve Jobs?"

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're essentially saying he is the head of a company, which he was. How is that wrong?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wasn't disagreeing. I was just displaying the core point.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Perfect! Edison slutted Tesla out bad.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Edison was into marketing and production, using technology from Tesla. Same situation with Steve Jobs and Xerox.

6 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 3

But he didn't use any tech from Tesla. He worked on AC with Westinghouse.

And with Gates and Jobs

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There is apparently a 100% Edison only invention we use every day. Well, English speakers at least. "Hello."

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Edison was the lightbulb.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Ahoy!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Hello.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually it was his Hungarian assistant

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You 100% mean Alexander Graham Bell, not Edison.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Bell used Ahoy like on ships, so no. Edison. Which is also credited with coining the word after a misheard Hullo! an exclamation of surprise

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are 100% correct and I was misremembering.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion: Edison doesn't get enough credit.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Why is that still so confusing for you. Isn't that same Jobs and the others do. You never heard the name of the ppl behind all new technolog

I mean kind of. Unfortunately, Nikola was a pioneer of theory but was terrible at taking ideas to market.

does edison have light bulb in his ass

6 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Yes, one of his few ACTUAL inventions.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yes. yes he does

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

one of the many things i love about it hahhaa - from tesla's glowing white pigeon to the fact he's riding a cat after revenge

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Edison will always be a hero of mine. Because he was a brilliant inventor, but unlike Tesla he was also an amazing businessman and sane

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

"Sane" is not an adjective assigned to the man who electrocuted an abused elephant to death

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

She was going to be killed either way by her owners and electrocution was seen as a more humane way of doing it. Would you rather she have/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

been hanged, because that was their original plan before edison stepped in.

Well, he wasn't quite sane. That's why he shouldn't be glorified as an infallible god. His ideas ought be examined on a case by case basis.

That would imply that he got paid.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Except Edison promised Tesla money he never received and they ended up rivals after the fact.

$50 000 back then was a lot more money. Like, Tesla could have retired with that money, instead of dying poor and basically homeless.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

So he took in Tesla's work without paying? That's literally theft.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well you know, back then there weren't a lot of systems in check to prevent that.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah but they are arguing he didn't steal from Tesla, he just commissioned work and didnt pay him. A longer way of saying he stole from him.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I was gifted a bust of Edison. I keep him facing a number of books written by other people. I think he would like that.

The bust of Newton is on the top shelf, as if on the shoulder of a giant.

6 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

Personally would have put him in the kitchen or something, as he was an alchemist. (later retconned in many history books as a scientist)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He was a naturalist, proto-science, and he spent far more of his life in religious scripture than anything else. Dude was one of a kind.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am not seeing anything about him being a naturalist. Being a alchemist on the other hand? Plenty. Also Alchemy is The proto-science :P

I suggest you check out the book The Clockwork Universe. It lays out how some very strange people stumbled over what would become the -

Is the bust of Tesla surrounded by pigeons and lightning?

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

No, if it's surrounded by pigeons and lightning (very very frightning), you want a bust of Galileo

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Galileo?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don’t have a Tesla effigy yet, but there is an over priced statuette with a magnetic bit that I can’t justify the cost of.

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

That is fair.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Although I would pay out the nose for a provenly accurate bust of Robert Hooke, just to piss off the memory of Newton.
