Here I was at my heaviest, over 80lbs. My owner was old and I had a thyroid issue, a combination which lead to my weight gain. When she passed away I was put into the shelter. Everyone overlooked me because of my weight issues, and no one wanted to adopt me. I knew I needed to make a change.
So I hit the track. It hasn't been an easy journey - I just remember to put one paw in front of the other.
A personalized workout schedule made all the difference though. I didn't care I was slow, I did my best and that was enough. (If you look closely, you can see me wagging in this video. Embarrassing! But I really was having fun.)
Here I am now! Down about 25 pounds. I'm so proud of myself, but I know there's more work to be done. I'm still at the shelter, but I'm hoping my new weight loss will make me more adoptable. Luckily my thyroid is being easily managed now by a twice daily pill. Life is looking up - I even have the energy to chase cats again! Peace out everyone, thanks for reading!!

In all seriousness, Strudel (yes, that's her name) has made incredible progress, and is a sweet dog looking for a home. She's currently up for adoption through Hearts for Hounds located in Virginia Beach, VA. Here's a link to her page: http://www.heartsforhoundsrescue.org/our-dogs/strudel/
To everyone on weight loss journeys, or the desire to start one, look to Strudel for inspiration! If she can learn to do an agility track with no treats, just verbal praise and encouragement, you can do it too!

My grandma's Galgo was so obese, he tripped during a walk a few months ago and got paralyzed. His weight just crushed his back. 1/2

He had to be put down that night. My grandma was and is still heartbroken, but obesity is no joke and very dangerous for dogs. Prevent it

Oh no! I hope Grandma is ok. That is a sad story. :/

Good girl strudel!! Thank you to all who helped her! Too often we see the owners just ignore the issue, jeopardizing the pets health.
