Yes, and wax and water. When the bulb base heats the wax, it warms, floats to the top, cools, sinks, and repeats.
Paraffin wax to be specific. Since it's oil based, it has a lower melting point than other waxes.

Current Chem teacher here - water and oil don’t mix from the polarity issue, Alka Seltzer dissolves in the water and releases gases 1/
Gas bubbles rise up and get coated in oil, making them sink, but it can’t sink all the way down because of polarity (again). Add 2/
Coloring and you’ve got a cheap lava lamp. Great at hole project with kids - I use a mason jar but don’t screw the lid on. We found 3/
