Reasoning with stupid is stupid.

Bob Rae is "not" an idiot

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

At the end of the day, to each of us, the appropriateness of an occupation as protest depends on how we feel about the issue being protested

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trudeau wouldn't meet with them

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Okay in this case you can't really ignore the obvious double standards in regards to other protests.

4 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 10

One of the distinctions between this and most protests is about 300 protestors in trucks took the place of (for the womens march) millions

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This is not a popular uprising this is astroturf.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Wow, deep. Not

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Real truckers were the ones still working to keep the shelves stocked, while assholes were working to keep the streets blocked...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Occupy Wall Street fixed capitalism. Occupy freedom will be equally as effective

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

It is only bad when you disagree with the reasons. Literally all of that could be applied to a protest we each support.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 5

You can always find ways to justify your actions and blame others' even though they are esentially the same.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Either side seems to sitting on horse of self righteousness while having nothing but contempt for the other side.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

One of my favourite politicians. I'd vote NDP in a heartbeat if it wasn't just throwing my vote away. I would love to see MMP voting here.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It isn’t throwing your vote away. They have made up the balance of a minority government many times.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not lies, i choose to identify them as truth in my belief system. (/s)

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I thought we decided that lies are just 'alternative facts'.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This is some 1984 level stuff.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

Occupation can be part of normal protest; but holding that occupation beyond the purpose of sending a message crosses a reasonable limit.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

In this case, the purpose wasn't just to make a point, but to also try and force the govt to adopt a minority view into policy.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

The intent behind the occupation evolved over time; at first it was govt overthrow, Jan 6 style, then PR (put the hate symbols away and 3/

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

and adjust the messaging), then as police broke it up it became about creating a victim/martyr image to give impetus to the next big thing.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I also believe that loud car exhausts/horns are a public nuisance and should be banned.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

no, not that old, i'm just 36

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Protest without civil disobedience is just a parade. The right knows this. The left forgot it and our "million man" protests are ignored.

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 10

If 2 billion worth of damage isn't civil disobedience in your eyes I'm scared of what is.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ummmm... BLM and Occupy Wall Street were FILLED with civil disobedience. So were pipeline protests.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

BLM got results. The others at least tried. Most liberal protests are picnics and are forgotten in a day.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The demand to overthrow the government is the real issue here. We just voted months ago,no one wanted conservatives then, and no one wants

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Them now.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

“Speech” under law can actually be a lot of things, which laypeople may not consider

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

These idiots are apparently trying to do this again.. in the Washington Beltway. Jokes on them, it's ALWAYS blocked af.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

This is a tough one. On one hand you have to make enough "noise" on the other you should respect the "normal" lives of others.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

The biggest downside to this occupation is worsening supply chain issues along with inevitable prices increase

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It was hardly just noise. It was threats of sedition and killing the PM, harassment and terrorizing of citizens, real abuse.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Pretty much my point.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People in power don't get to define what protest is. You can disagree with the taste of the Flu Trucks Clan. You can say their protest

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

of ordinary safety in a crisis wouldn't be appropriate regardless of the method of protest. You can call them spoiled children. But theyare

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

protesters regardless of how silly their protest is.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hatred is exactly a difference of opinion. The opinion of most humans is that they are important. Thus, anyone unlike themselves is 'bad'.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Either side seems to sitting on horse of self righteousness while having nothing but contempt for the other side. Contempt is one of the

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

4 horseman in a bad relationship. Once contempt seeps in, their will never be any resolve. It’s very poisonous

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Contempt comes from abuse and neglect. Suffering teaches us to fear and so we never learn respect and gratitude. Misery creates misery.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For real. I’m still in therapy. Been in therapy for years. But I just keep grinding away. It’s daily work but better then being a victim.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Occupations are protests.

4 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 19

Russia is having a protest in Ukraine?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 18

Uh oh, the Putin bots are after you

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's just a protest that requires tanks is all! Perfectly peaceful.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Reminds of this gem:

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Among other things. Don't make the silly assumption that the word only appeared anywhere in my other post.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm just using your logic

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

No, you're not. You're making up things I didn't say.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't like the people who are doing this one, but I firmly agree. The left could learn a little from them.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 20

LOL cuz the left have never occupied anything? They have, but when they do they’re beaten and arrested in far less time than 4 weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 8

Because the state/capitalist masters have a vested interest in keeping the left/anarchists surpressed. Act faster than against these asshats

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

the left have been doing that for a while, just not to this degree cuz they don't really wanna disrupt basic needs of citizens

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 8

Portland and Seattle were similar length of time, no?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As far as I know they didn't block up a bottleneck causeway that actually stops resources from reaching the city.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The problem is, you NEED to disrupt some of those basic needs for people to see and hear you (and join you).

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

People were threatening to run over protesters when they slowed down roads for a few hours, what would happen if it went on for weeks?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Maybe if it was disrupting just a select group of elites but regular people struggle enough as it is. It's fucking with supply lines.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

If you just disrupt the elites, nothing will change. You don't threaten or harrass regular folk though; ask them to help you.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

I mean they literally did exactly this with the rails 2 years ago for like a month in canada.

Bullshit

Were you there? Read the list I linked and you can come apologize for saying that.

Bob Rae - former Premier of Ontario (Doug Ford's current role). Former leader of left-wing NDP party. Not great at policy, but very smart.

4 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 12

He was the leader of the provincial NDP but he sat as a Liberal at the federal level and was once their interim leader.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bob is current Canadian UN ambassador. He has had a long career in public service.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Actually great at policy, not as good at politics. He ran the province well during a recession without laying off government employees...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The right hated him because he was an NDPer the left because he didn't spend money the province didn't have...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The reason Boomers hate NDP and they won’t see power again until they’re dead.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

I mean…..you’re not wrong.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Also because people are too racist to vote for Singh.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Well that’s a wide brush you’re painting with. I’m a boomer. I love NDP. Jack Layton would have been elected if he didn’t get sick.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

A guy that was caught in a spa brothel sting operation? I'm no boomer and I can't stand the NDP. Green party is much more reasonable.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sorry, I’m in a largely conservative area, and whenever I express support for NDP I get a lecture about the ‘Bob Rae Days’

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean the way that he was able to not lay off teachers & civil servants, while also not burying the province in debt during a recession?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of these are accepted forms of protest, just because a group with shady funding and foreign backers subverted it doesn't make it wrong.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

We should be examining who these people are.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It is illegal for foreign entities to contribute to political campaigns. Crowd funding programs are a loophole that needs to be addressed

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

But the attacking, harassment, intimidation and threats of sexual violence against citizens make it wrong.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

So lets lump it all together so we can outlaw legitimate protests then?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It was in no way a legitimate protest and that is not what I'm saying at all. Read this list then try again.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's exactly what you said.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you read the list?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone who doesn't live in Ottawa read this: https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/13-Zg8yjEPYyybbLy70njbWxGeYELQ3Q3PT2Vph0XKQM/mobilebasic

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who had guns?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Did you read the list? That's not what is being discussed

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone said Trudeau is gonna catch a bullet? Who’s got a gun besides the police in Canada? Real question

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What about the people at the Coutts border? Bringing said guns to Ottawa. Is that cache of weapons enough guns for you?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just thought Canada gave up it’s guns. So when someone said Trudeau was gonna catch a bullet, it sounds like a silly empty threat.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That’s also the biggest argument I hear for keeping guns bc criminals don’t give a fuck about laws. There’s never 100% safety.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes and no. Occupation is protest, unless they define protest differently than we do in America. It was vital to civil rights movement.

4 years ago | Likes 177 Dislikes 8

I went to a college where construction floorplans from the 70s were decentralized to make occupations less effective.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The difference is duration. This lasted 3 weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 12

It was not a protest. It was a festival. There were pig roasts and DJ’s with dances and hot tubs in the middle of the street.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

And BLM protests lasted months. What's your point?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

According to Wikipedia The Chaz/chop was established 6/8 and taken down 7/1, so roughly three weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm ok w/ long duration occupations as protest even, but (from what I saw, not CDN) they were also abusing locals & being violent. Not OK.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

That's cuz these assholes get to live out of their trucks, Occupy Wallstreet on the other hand were living out of tents which cops raided.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

Lot harder to forcefully remove a truck too. Glad it is over.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Nah, it's easy to forcefully remove a truck. There's towing vehicles specially made for them.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It’s not. The trucks are gone but tons of the assholes are still wandering around Ottawa. The cops have gotten way too lax with the [1]

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

checkpoints and a bunch of these idiots are still getting into downtown Ottawa. And most of the ones that have left the city are on [2]

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

It's a protest when I do it, it's a crime against democracy when somebody else does it. The double standards before anything.

4 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 10

In this case it the MOU of the organizers (Canada Unity) were actually anti-democratic. They wanted to anoint themselves in charge.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If the police brutally suppress one protest and cheer the other, then one is a crime against democracy. I'll let you figure out which.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

The only double standard is that the cops treat one group as dangerous terrorists and the other as friendly neighbors.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 9

So i didn't see the police trample an old woman with police horses yesterday?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

An event which *is* being investigated but which, by the video I saw, was caused by the protestors putting themselves in the way.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

I’d love to talk about Austin’s Ramos protests, what the police and their union said vs what has been found to be the truth 2 years later

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone of these truckers probably applauded the critical infrastructure bill in AB when it was being used to remove first nations (1)

But didn't think it would get applied to their snowy white ass(2)

Take a look at the difference between, say occupy wallstreet, which occupied a park until they were kicked out, then went to specific(1)

(3) walk across brooklyn bridge ONCE, not block it for hours, or days, just a group to walk across and BAM 768 arrested. Blocking traffic...

is NOT an occupation, it is a blockade. No other movements have every literally shit down a city AND border crossings to other countries...

4 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

..For weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Well said. I went to the comments to say something similar. The first 3 sentences of this tweet would be hypocritical from the left.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

The left managed two different occupation protests, both covered internationally by the media, neither of which interfered with businesses

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Or individual liberties of non participating citizens, both of which lasted for weeks, and both of which were broken up by police violence.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Your accusations of hypocrisy mean absolutely nothing.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

The tweet: “An occupation is not a protest.” You: “The left managed two occupation protests.”

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Protests are fine, but laying siege is not. Starving a community is a violation of the rights of thosein the community. Borderline terrorism

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Also I don't ever recall BLM or pipeline blockers driving around entire cities blowing truck horns at all hours of the night to disturb.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 11

They did prevent ambulances when they blocked highways.

4 years ago | Likes 172 Dislikes 30

Aren't they just using trucks to make regular means of dispersing them as difficult and time consuming as possible?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Using vehicles as weapons against political opponents is shockingly consistent policy for reactionary terrorists

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

I'm surprised a few Molotov cocktails didn't end up on those expensive trucks by happenstance...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oklahoma passed a lot making it legal to kill protesters with your car, you just have to cry and say you were in danger. It's insanity!

Whether it's running over protestors, blockading cities, honking all night, or running a truck through an open market. It's reactionaries

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are the truckers holding a stupid protest? Maybe. I don't agree with their position. But without disruption, a protest is toothless.

4 years ago | Likes 123 Dislikes 4

If by "maybe" you mean "absolutely, scientifically, factually, and realty-wise, yes"

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

And without the support and sympathy of the people, it's also toothless

4 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 2

while i think this protest is stupid, it's a fucking shame that people are supporting authoritarian government actions against them.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

A fine line to disrupt business for the people you're protesting while minimizing the impact it has on the common people.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Like Japanese bus drivers who strike by continuing to ride their routes while letting people ride the bus for free.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

That's the point of a protest. To garner support. Did you think all the protests during the civil rights movement had the support prior?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not justifying their position but I will defend their right to protest.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Tactics are valley neutral. It’s the cause, lack of consistency and the far right extremism throughout that is the problem. However, the

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 9

implementation of The Emergencies Act and the new codification for crowdfunding are things I worry about in regards to what the precedents

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

they’ll have for the future will be when people are rising up for progressive ideals rather than right winger hijacking discontent.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

These people stopped being considered "protestors" when they decided to hold the whole city hostage and harass and assault residents

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The tactics definitely weren't neutral. As someone who lives here, the lanes of downtown were reduced to 1 for 3 weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Also, emergency vehicles couldn't do basic things, meaning a few people died of completely preventable things. In line with their philosophy

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

And the constant honking at all hours meant the populace were being sleep deprived, which is a form of torture.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

The protests were.... inconvenient? That can't be their goal, can it? *shocked*

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Generally you make things inconvenient for the people or place being protested. Not regular people. It impacted regular people most.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Civil disobedience is an important part of protesting. You have a warped view of protests movements

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Sorry, I should say a very sanitized view of social movements. It's okay. That isn't an accident.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I don't mind that they had a protest over the health mandates. Wouldn't mind weekend thing and respecting the local businesses and citizens.

4 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 24

Oof. Kinda missing the point of a protest bud. A government sanctioned protest is known as a parade

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

My point being: there was a format for them to express themselves that would be broadly acceptable. But that is not what this was.

4 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 20

However, I don't agree with the hate speech, or these protesters. Although I can tolerate their disagreement, the nazis can fuck right off.

4 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 18

Had weekend protests in Quebec. Neat and clean. All they want is to be heard and get answers/acknowledgement. Being ignored is frustrating.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Protests aren't meant to be convenient.

4 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

Imagine having to walk to work through a crowd of unmasked & unvaccinated people, and if you mask up they will crowd around and harass you.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

I agree that they and their movement are co.etely wrong, but the ability for everyone to voice their opinions through protest is important

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I agree it is too. Queens park in Toronto has had many peaceful protests that have been polite, non-disruptive and made their point.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Harassing bystanders is not the way to do it.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Many of these protesters were there spoiling for a fight and they were being very aggressive towards anyone wearing a mask.

4 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 17
