Not been doing the best but I wanted to do something for my mother's birthday tomorrow. I decided to try making a very simple cake. It's a simple yellow box cake that I poked holes in and then covered it in a chocolate pudding that has been thinned down so that it would spread throughout the entire cake. More or less it's a chocolate yellow cake. Got the idea from sometime back when I baked a tres leches cake from scratch. This also was my very first time ever trying to make frosting. It didn't work out the best but it did work and I have never done any kind of piping before. So far for my first time piping I think it looks decent. Just felt like sharing hope everyone has a wonderful day and see you again another day.

I would give anything to have another day with my mom - and for her to have another birthday.

You are precious, and that is a wonderful looking cake!

Thinned pudding to seep into the cake sounds like an absolute delight

You took the time to make a cake for your mom…that in and of itself is an act of kindness and love. Even if the cake tastes like a boot she’ll love it! Good on you @op.

Lol now I see that also. Well this will make for a funny moment when I tell her that.

Hey, it's better than a cake frosted in mayonnaise with her name spelled out in bacon.

This Madre loves it and knows she will too. Awesome job kiddo. Us Moms just appreciate any appreciation from our kiddos. We feel loved. Hope her birthday is wonderful. Please share update.

I once made a cake for my mom. I was worried about her coming home before I was done, so I didn’t let it cool enough before icing it. She still loved it. Talks about it every birthday, too!

dont let it cool. mix the icing soo its soft. ice it, be sloppy dont press down on cake. pop that bitch back in the oven for like 3 minutes. does this amazing thing to the icing

Oh, warm cake with icing is one of the few ways I like to eat iced cakes. It thins & coats the cake but isn't overpowering.
