While Hitler was in jail for his involvement, he wrote Mein Kampf (My Struggle) in which he laid the groundwork for the principles of the Third Reich. The Nazi party gained seats in the Reichtag into the 30s and as party head, Hitler demanded to be made Chancellor and was denied. After more political maneuvers he was eventually granted the title of chancellor and seized control of the government, smashing the democratic system in the process.
