The official explanation was that it showed he was not taking the job seriously but the reality is that there was an imperative to criticize President Obama every single day about the most things without fail.. This made a simple difference like this an easy target because it was not as he typically appeared. The underlying purpose was to associate negative emotions with President Obama. This is part of a decades-long effort to emotionally manipulate the conservatives to vote for Republicans.
Conservative politics is just ad-libs. (Name of person you are told to dislike)(A thing or event that person did)(Generic statement on how this thing or event is bad with no supporting evidence)(Repeat said bad thing until person you support does said thing)(Say the bad thing is good because obviously).
There is an old fashioned sensibility that a tan (or lighter colored) suit is more casual than darker ones (which are considered more serious and somber). Obama wore the suit while at a press conference discussing bombing the middle east. So, he was criticized for appearing casual while remarking on that topic. It's a very anachronistic idea by now, and really it was older folks grasping for something to fill up airtime during a slow news day.
its not and the fact that you think there is any reason is part of the problem, they kinda already won if you start adding ANY creedance at all to this claim, it doesnt matter, EVERYTHING A DEMOCRAT DOES IS BAD, is their message.

Because it was worn by "one'a them uppity Negroes."
Legomaniac91
It wasn't the color of the suit, it was the color of the man wearing it.
cartherium
It wasn't the tan colored suit they were mad about, but the tan colored man wearing it.

They were incredibly desperate for reasons why he was a terrible President who should never have been elected.
QuitLookinAtMineAim
It's wasn't the team suit, it was the tan under it that bothered them.
DoYouWannaKnowMySecretIdentity
They didn't care about the color of the suit. They cared about the color of the man wearing it.
Eramik
They were upset by a color. But not that of the suit. They just didn't dare say what they were really upset about.
