It's sad really what came before, I saw the stadium in Seattle all lit up in US and Belgian flags, it really looked like it was supposed to be an exciting match between 2 teams that were going to give their all...

The U.S team does deserve ridicule - they're cheats. They know their player should be suspended but they hoped to have more success playing with him. Cheats. They didn't get what they deserved - which was expulsion from the tournament and the next one in four years. It's nice they lost comprehensively.

Which is sad because the US women's team dominated that game and deserved the win but got no respect for it compared to the men who won because Hellebuyck played out of his mind. The US women were younger and faster than Canada and even though the score was close it was obvious to anyone watching which team was more skilled - they should have been celebrated more.

The US women's team dominated the tournament up until the finals, but not sure I'd say they dominated that game. They played well but Canada played way better than they did in the group stages, and they even had more shots on goal. Ann-Renee Desbiens was a brick wall, and the US team needed to get risky and go empty-net for Hilary Knight to score late in the game.

Canada played defensively responsible against the US but even though the shot quantity was similar the shot quality was not. Canada spent most of the time hemmed in their own end and were heavily reliant on Desbiens (who played amazing). During the game I remember commenting that we were playing the US like most other teams try to play against Canada. Dominated may not be the right word but it was pretty obvious which team was more skilled in the gold medal game.

Sure does seem like Trump's fuckery would've been a gigantic blow to team morale and drive. All of a sudden everything they've been working for, on this massive global stage, is permanently tainted because of him. I wouldn't say they were a "far better" team. That's a bit of a disservice to the US team. They had a bad game. It hapoens. Belgium may have still won even if the US played better. They're certainly the better team, but I don't think the skill gap is as big as that game made it seem.

I mean, they lost to Turkey in a game that did not matter. They'd already clinched the group, so they sat 4 players with yellow cards and fielded a vastly different starting 11 than the three prior games. That's a pretty weak argument.
