Spent nearly an hour trying to figure out how to stream a movie

Oct 7, 2019 2:36 AM

Had some Walk the Line clips pop up on my YouTube suggested feed; put me in the mood to watch the whole thing. I have Netflix, but it's not on there. My sister has Hulu, so I texted her for her info. Signed in only to find it missing from there as well.

Now my brain decides to kick on (a little), and I go to Google to see what streaming services have Walk the Line. It says YouTube and Amazon have it, but to rent. So I'm like "...well...I do wanna watch it...Alright, fine let's go to YouTube, that seems easiest."

Turns out, of course, yes you can rent it for $3.99, but that's with a YouTube Red subscription. And I'll be goddamned if I ever get a YouTube Red Subscription. Alright, last resort: Mommy. She has an Amazon Prime account, I'll just ask for her account info.

So after 10-15 minutes and the usual pleasantries you gotta go through when you call your mom, I ask for her info.

Mom: "Yea, sure. What for? You finally gonna watch one of the Amazon shows I keep recommending to you?"

Me (re: Dumbass): "Oh, no, I just really wanted to watch this movie, and it's only available on services I don't have"

Mom: "Oh, ok. Don't you own that movie?"

Dumbass: "What do you mean? Like, do I have the file for it? I probably used to, but my harddrive got wiped, sI have to stream it now. And I don't have an Amazon account, so..."

Mom: "No, I mean, you have that on DVD, don't you?"

I had 100% forgotten that DVDs existed. I own very many of them, but since the advent of the 12 billion streaming services that now dominate the entertainment industry, I haven't really used a physical copy of a movie or game or whatever in quite a while. She had to remind me that this technology existed.

In conclusion:

Oh, and when I went to find it among my collection, I also spied The Prestige and The Illusionist. So...now I kinda wanna watch them too.

It's essentially a picture book. You'll get through it. Or not, I don't really mind. No skin off my dick.
