Baby Valentine’s

After waiting SO LONG my husband and I got to meet our son today!

My husband and I own our own business, so as you can probably imagine, being self employed and getting health insurance is difficult. I’m a fairly healthy person, so I didn’t worry too much about it until we found out we were pregnant. I started calling the state and filling out paper work. I had different people tell me different conflicting information and had such much run around to even just apply! One person said they needed proof of pregnancy that I then went and got (paid out of pocket), and it was never asked for. One person said they just needed my taxes. Then they needed our businesses taxes, but just the first three pages. And then they needed all the pages. And there were weeks (!) of waiting is between all of these steps.

I was finally approved, and made an appointment! I was about 4 months pregnant at this point. They couldn’t schedule me for another month. Finally, we showed up to our first appointment, and they had made it for the wrong person. I have a common sounding last name, and whoever made the appointment hadn’t paid attention to the spelling, and made the appointment for someone who has my exact name with a different spelling! It took them 30 minutes to figure out the mistake, and they said at this point they would have to reschedule. I drove away and just started crying. We had been really looking forward to finding out ANYTHING about our baby. We had to call and explain to mothers why the wait was extended.

After everything, though, we had our first ultrasound today. As soon as I walked into the room I started crying. The ultrasound technician showed us that the baby is developing exactly as he should be, that I’m about 25 weeks along, and that we’re expecting a little boy!

The wait has been long, but I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s present!!

Tl;dr: After several long month of insurance run around and mistaken identity, my husband and I met our son today!
