#1 I am unable to let things go. It's the problem I have. I linger on whatever bugs me for months or years, even if it's just a slight because I never get that closure or the issues of that linger. Eventually it goes away as I get exhausted of being angry at it.

#1 Always Wear Sunscreen.
I like to listen to that song every now and then. Very solid advice.

Do No Harm. Take No Shit.
Works for me.

That's 7 rules of life as written by an underachiever with zero responsibilities, and those rules will not work in modern society because the rest of the population isn't playing fair and will walk all over you if you don't take a stand and fight with proper effort against the bad shit that can affect your life.
MightyIink
Rules are made to be broken.

#8- You are not more important than anyone else. Don't be a dick at the expense of others.
#9- If you can help do it. What may be small to you might be someone's last straw.
#10- Just because you can....doesn't mean you should.

Well said! #10 is humanity's biggest failing

#1 recently had beef with someone at work. I thought about all kinds of retaliations. THOUGHT being the key word. In the mean time, I moved past it. I've almost let it go, and didn't get myself in trouble or cause more issue.

"time heels everything" then why do I feel so numb?
darkdragonempress
Because time doesn’t heal everything. It can give distance and perspective. But it’s still up to a person to struggle with processing everything. Good luck.

Wanna know how I got these scars?
oldguyexlurker
#1 I'm not generally a pessimist, but sometimes "Time" doesn't heal anything and things like cancer, ongoing abuse, whatever can actually get worse. And, umm... no. You probably will NEVER have everything figured out. Just don't panic about that. Figure out what you can, when you can, and stay calm about the other shit.
symbholic
#1 1. - Reflect on the past to create a better future; 2. - Listen to people to form meaningful connections; 3. - Be aware that things end and act accordingly; 4. - Compare to have different perspectives; 5. - Be aware that you might not succeed; 6. - You are not responsible for everything bad in your life; 7. - It's ok to be grumpy, disappointed or not feel like smiling

"The rape, abuse, trauma, you experienced is YOUR FAULT! So fucking smile about it!" - #1
Zyrixion
I tend to think these are a little more softspoken and gentle. Letting go of the past is an important part of healing the traumas of yesterday, and it is right that the past can be what keeps us from being okay in the present. Perhaps, rather than the statement you made of it, a different perspective could be "let the *blame* go". it's not your fault, no matter how much you think it might've been, or that you could've done something different." It is never so easy, of course, but it is a start

I had it described to me as thus: time doesn't heal. It scars over. It always aches somewhat, like a old injury on a rainy day.

#1 great unless your brain doesn’t listen to you. I constantly tell myself to let stuff go and my brain refuses
Zyrixion
It's an ideal, it's something we strive for. The harder it is to let things go, the more important it is to work at it. I hear you about the defiant brain, mine doesn't do all that great at listening sometimes, but it listens better than it would without trying to make it listen. As with all things neurodivergence, it's not always achieving results that matter, but what trying to teaches us, and helps us build tools and coping mechanisms for. I hope your brain is kinder to you henceforth. ^_^
FacelessAce
That's okay, you're going to break the rules sometimes, and that's okay. As long as you keep trying.
ishovethingsupmyass
#1 2 and 3 really mess eachother up when you're trying to be a nice and good person but for some reason some asshat decides to shout shit at you, just because they think they have it better than you, and because they propably suffered from the same shit before, and now they project it to you.
ishovethingsupmyass
Also this applies to everyone, absolutely everyone does this shit.
tanebot
Yeah, this is great advice for a certain group of people but not universal. It's a bit like the 'nothing to fear but fear itself' type motivational speakers. Some people do have something to fear, and some situations can't be ignored.
