Same. They eliminated my job because of AI, after 29 years. I got another job with my company, 12k less per year. I'm about 6 years from retirement. If rates were lower right now, my pension transfer would be amazing, and I'd bail. Loyalty means nothing to corporations. I'll be fine, but this is crazy. "Polyworking" is a bullshit corpospeak term invented to rebrand and destigmatize the idea of working multiple jobs - a thing which used to be seen as gauche.
The idea of "I can't afford to eat if I only work one job, so I'm forced to moonlight" is rightfully disgusting, but normalizing exploiting your workers is more profitable for corporations, so they want to rebrand it to something that casts it as a voluntary choice workers make all on their own and which is nobody else's fault.

That’s too simplistic. Millennials stopped buying newspapers because who would carry around a newspaper if you can read it on a phone. And then ads came into play, because Millennials were used to not paying for content on the internet. And then the newspaper companies realised that you make more money off of ads when the news were either terrible or engaging. And now it is a shit show. Oh, and it doesn’t help that no one is able any longer to tead to the end of this text.
