Written Chinese didn't have gendered personal pronouns until 1919 when they were introduced to accommodate translation of western literature, whereas spoken Chinese still doesn't have them to this day.
English can fix the problem by learning from Chinese: adopt an explicitly singular genderless personal pronoun.

What really interesting about that is the word they use for rib may be a mistranslation. It could mean 'side'. As in Adam was both male and female and God removed a 'side' of Adam and made Eve. Although we dont' know and probably shouldn't be baseing our morality on such things anyway.

There's a non-zero portion of people who are not trans, but have an XY genetics yet have gone their entire lives living as female. Enough that the Olympics stopped using it.
There are very feminine women, who have higher testosterones, than masculine men (again who are not trans). So you can't really rely on hormone levels.
