As they put weight on the back it levered the car up so that more weight was on the tires than on edge. This let the tires roll downhill as they are wont to do. Probably most immediately avoided by simply applying the brakes.

It adds wear to the parking brake, but in cases like driving in Europe where you may need to start a car on a steep incline, especially if it’s a stick shift, just gunning it past the resistance of the parking brake for the first few feet and then popping it off can be helpful.
Don't need a full towtruck if you have a vehicle of equal or greater weight and a suitable cable or chain to put between them. Connect the straps to the frame just inside the wheel that is in the air, back up slowly to tip the vehicle down and pull it away from the edge. Don't try to throttle the stranded vehicle, let it be pulled back slowly.
Google says a Sequoia is rear wheel drive, so i would’ve thought getting the rear wheel down might’ve worked. Either they didn’t have it in reverse, didn’t gas it quick enough, or there was just too much weight to overcome.
Situational awareness aside, why the hell isn't there a fence or literally anything to mark that there's a concrete cliff there? Even a painted curb is better than that mess
