The whole thing is a complete farce that will probably end up making things worse now that OPEC have realised they have the power to veto any effective measures. Sultan Al Jaber faced pressure from Saudi Arabia, leader of OPEC oil producers' group, to drop any mention of fossil fuels and OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais urged members to reject any COP28 deal that targeted fossil fuels. This has left us with a worthless agreement advising what countries " could " do but nothing binding.

I'm a doomer so take what I say with buckets of salt.. We got "transition away from" instead of "phase out". This seems to mean that we can expect further oil prospecting and further build up of fossil fuel sectors globally. At this stage this is a total loss. More delay when phase out should have started long ago to avert systemic collapse.
