Your best bet is probably a (semi) nomadic culture, they tended to be a little more egalitarian. Precolonial times rarely any culture had explicit problems with black people. It was either all foreigners or none. Cathars might be a doomed but viable option? Can even opt out that whole having children business.

No we won't, for starters the Dark Ages never happened. That's a Renaissance fantasy to make them feel better about themselves. Western Rome just fractured and continued on. The Franks didn't build their realm from the ground up. It's just a Germanic take on Rome on a smaller scale. Same laws, same military, same taxes, etc.
It's true a full regression without access to surface deposits is an issue but we'll never go back to a dark age that hadn't really happened.

People think they'll go back in time and be royalty after they use future knowledge to their benefit. Reality is they'll be too out of shape and unaccustomed to manual labor to be useful to anybody, and most of that 'future knowledge' would just get them ostracized at best and burned as a heretic at worst. Also, modern english and olde englishe would be indecipherable to each other, so good luck communicating with anybody.

EXACTLY. Afaik western kids today are still vaccinated against polio. We are still failing to get enough vaccines to third world countries. Time travel risk is smallpox; youngsters aren't vaccinated because we literally wiped out smallpox by 1980. Except it is kept contained in some laboratories just in case. And after 9/11 it became a concern as a possible bio weapon for terrorists. They started vaccinating again, but only for soldiers going into conflict - vaccine supply was too low.

Mutation not so much, but in an attempt to reduce vaccine caused disease they did stop vaccinating for type 2 for a short time. The polio vaccines are weird. In the US and most devoloped countries, they use an injected vaccine that cannot cause polio and provides almost complete protection from polio disease, but doesn't always prevent infection. In poorer regions they use an oral vaccine that prevents infection, but every few million vaccinations can cause a case of polio.

As far as I know the Sabin vaccine is still unchanged today and is still used in developing countries, although in the US we use a dead version of the vaccine that protects against paralysis but doesn't actually prevent you from getting polio.

The Sabin vaccine has been adjusted in recent years. They started to get more vaccine derived cases than actual live cases, so they have been trying to reduce that number. In 2016, they stopped regular vaccinations of type 2, which has been eradicated in the wild, but the cause of most vaccine derived cases. This caused a spike in vaccine derived cases and more changes to the vaccines have been made in the last few years.

The majority of vaccines use dead virus, that's how they immunize you against the virus without making you sick. Your immune system is exposed to the dead virus so it can figure out how to fight off the virus and it saves that info in case it ever sees the virus again. The live oral polio vaccine is one of the only exceptions to using dead viruses and it doesn't generally make anyone sick either, but in some cases people do contract polio from it.

My understanding is that the oral vaccine uses a genetically altered version of the virus, which can mutate back into the original version in certain circumstances, but it's more of an issue for anyone coming into contact with sewage or excrement than the vaccine recipient.
