My dad started me out on multitools early. A small hammer and a "great neck" brand pliers multitool from AutoZone.
The hammer handle is nested flathead and Phillips head screw drivers if various sizes. The great neck is the usual line up on tools.

I have that hammer!!! It’s great to use the smaller bits as pry bars on laptops

Going to have to quarantine that hammer, got the Ripley. https://mygeekblasphemy.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/tumblr_lem5uhcpmy1qcdhkv.jpg

I got those same pliers as a kid. I still have them now roughly twenty years later.

Start em early. And yes he is the best dad ever. Got me a full tool kit for my truck we rebuilt when I was 16.

What if you want to hammer something and screw something right after?
pakayaro
I usually hammer while I screw.
DesignNerd86
But do you jack hammer?
ninjaGiraffeMonster

Thanks. I just wish I still had the "old timer" knife my dad gave me on our first big camping trip
DesignNerd86
Which I found out that my dad gave me an old timer cause his dad had given him one. My dad claimed his dad's old timer after he passed.

Theses are good tools. The crap nowadays are built to break. My best tools are my 30 to 50 year old tools.

My sidekick has been a a good one too
CassieOPeia
How... how do you have a sidekick?
DesignNerd86
You don't have one? Huh.
