You'd be surprised at the levels of stupid petty thieves will go to, especially if they got priors or even active warrants. When I worked security, there were mostly knives and needles (if any weapons), but thankfully never firearms. Most of them are junkies, so sound decision making is out the window. A few of them even escalated to kidnapping (plead down to lesser offenses, hence why they were still on the street).

like, I could have gotten him a pretrial diversion program and all charges dismissed if it was his first offense...or into a rehab and then a conditional discharge if he kept clean for a year or something if it was his second or third...but now, he is likely doing some time- doubt the gun was legal either...was it a gun? it looks a little like a taser- still...it is bad
