Thief: The Dark Project (1998), Thief: Gold (1998) (1 w/extra missions) and Thief: The Metal Age (2000)
Back when, I was in "the scene" so I wrangled a copy of this for free. Loved it so much, I actually went to the store and bought it, and sent an email to the development studio letting them know how great it was.
They went out of business like 4 months later.
Not even 3 years later, I find out one of my then co-workers actually was one of the guys who worked on the graphics driver and the internal tools for level design! He says that the internal tools were absolute crap and they were amazed by the quality of fan-made tools.
Anyway, it's a fun game. I just hated the zombies - and that one police station level where you couldn't knock anyone out. Making a big pile of unconscious guards was half the fun!
Edit: Zero punctuation did a great review of this a bit back, if you haven't seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQqcFtvFtno

Is there someone going around and automatically downvoting every new #retrogaming post? All the new ones I click on are at 0.

These games were amazing, I spent so many hours moving unconcious bodies. I still remember freaking out tha there were T-Rexes on the level.

The age of the irregularly shaped boxes.

Those things were weird, that's for sure!

Thief and Thief - The Metal Age were sublime. Pity they NEVER made any sequels.

That is correct. They did not. I heard some folks considered making spiritual successors, but of course, did not. I mean, seriously, do you

think a company like, oh, Ion Storm could live up to the defunct Looking Glass Studios? No way, it'd be stupid to try. They'd cock it up!

Was Deus Ex a successor to theif? Love that game (Ion Storm only made two games IIRC), I have Theif but not played it yet
