Not everyone is happy about this bi-partisan bill, but it's still notably the biggest investment in transportation infrastructure ever. I'll take it. We'll fight for more tomorrow, but this is a good start.

they did SOMETHING woo hoo things are looking up!
UserNamesArentEasy
Hmm maybe they can finally finish the 4 lane highway project in Southern Minnesota
JesusToldMe
I'm sure they still won't fix the damn pothole I hit on my way home from work.
sambaah05
That's more city/state level. Feds are more for big projects like highways, bridges and trains.
kevinallover
Modernizing highways... they mean bullet trains, right?
SeleneEvelyn
Hope this means billionaires will now be taxed accordingly.
sambaah05
This one is largely funded using already appropriated funds being shifted. The reconciliation bill is the one that may have higher taxes.

And it's public dead because so many millionaires are in Congress on all sides The Senate too if I'm not mistaken too many rich people
sambaah05
People said this bill was dead for months. We'll see what happens I guess.

I don't get this narrative about Tuesday's state elections being a "stinging defeat". Is that what we're using for drama this week?
Cavalrysword
That statement shows their lack of knowledge of History. The newly elected president has lost both of those States going back to the 80s.
Cavalrysword
The fact that Biden got one out of two of those governorships is actually a victory.
sambaah05
It's a stinging defeat for people that live in Virginia. Means COVID mandates will be gone, and the GOP is already talking about a Texas
sambaah05
Style abortion bill. Those are bad things in my book. And I'm sure they're just getting started.
littlecoatfatguy
None of that is about Biden.
sambaah05
The impact isn't about Biden. But it's hard to disconnect Bidens high unfavorable polls, with the votes that happened in Virginia.
littlecoatfatguy
"High unfavorable polls" are going to be a baked-in feature of American politics from here on.
CosplayComet
Isn't this less than half what the original proposal was?
assortedletters
Yeah which is one of the reasons it didn't happen.
sambaah05
Let's focus. It's the biggest ever. People need to learn to take a win when we get it. It's the biggest infrastructure bill ever.
constellanation5
Curious, what's your point?
CosplayComet
....that this is half of what it was supposed to be?
sambaah05
Half of what it was supposed, but the biggest ever. You forgot to mention the biggest ever part. Context helps.
constellanation5
Half of what it originally was hoped to be* however our gov don't work that way. It seems you dismissed it all because of compromise.
CosplayComet
You sure are inferring a lot from me observing that this is less than half of what was originally proposed.
constellanation5
You're wording casts a negative. Which is why I questioned you
