The Pocket Fire flared up yesterday afternoon around 4:30 PM. I happened to be doing a jeep tour at the time and got these photos.

Edit: in case you didn't know whereabouts I'm from, this is near Sedona, Arizona. Apologies, I guess I kinda of assumed everyone knew where I was from, please forgive me.

Last I checked (and I haven't yet this morning, having JUST woke up and edited these pictures), it was just over 100 acres.

Somewhere near Secret Canyon and Vultee arch. Those flames you see are somewhere around 30-60 feet high.

Oak creek canyon and the campers and people living there are being evacuated and at least one jeep trail, the Vultee Arch OHV has been shut down as of 8pm last night.

I did watch a steady stream of slurry bombers and water carrier planes headed there from as far as Prescott, so we'll see what happens...

Standard Daily Meme post coming shortly.

Nothing, what's in the pocket with you? (The other comment actually answered the question so I couldn't resist, sorry.)

1 month ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 7

Bit out of Pocket, but sure...

1 month ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yikes. Those fires inside and along steep hills are more challenging and more dangerous for fire crews to deal with.

Roughly two and a half giraffes.

I know sounds stupid, but get yourself a DJI Neo2 or similar and get some aerial footage. They're cheap, anyone can fly them and do 4k shots

Just stay low enough to not interupt and air traffic but you can get a better hold of the situation and you might actually earn some money, if News Outlets want to use your footage

Many don't have the capacity to send people or the money to buy expensive ones. Drone could pay for itself in no time and worst case you just got better tracking of the spread

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It sounds stupid because it is stupid. PLEASE do not do this. Stay the hell away with drones. Slurry bombers and lead planes have been crashed by them. And even if they're not, the pilots will still be distracted by having to keep track of them, while also dealing with incredibly dangerous wind conditions and challenging terrain avoidance.

I could not find any reports on slurry bombers beeing crashed by drones and something like that sounds like it would be a pretty fucking big deal worthy of not only news.

You sound a lot like one of those fear mongering gut feeling people, who think it's only natural that drones have to be a problem to basically everything while not knowing shit about aviation.

Neo 2 weighs 150g. A freaking pidgeon up to 600g. Do the math whats more dangerous.

Also you can just stay below the tree line.

Sorry, do you think a 150g object cannot bring down an aircraft?

It’s a federal crime, punishable by up to 12 months in prison, to interfere with fire-
fighting efforts on public lands. Additionally, Congress has authorized the FAA to
impose a civil penalty of up to $20,000 against any drone pilot who interferes
with wildfire suppression, law enforcement or emergency response operations.
The FAA treats these violations seriously, and will immediately consider swift
enforcement action for these offenses

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Q: What should I do if I see someone operating a drone near a wildfire?
A: Report it immediately to local law enforcement and the nearest FAA Flight
Standards District Office with as much information as possible.

So I'll say it again: it's a stupid, dangerous, and selfish thing to do. And very illegal.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, what I'm saying is, any pidgeon is more dangerous. There are literally hundreds of planes downed by birds every year, not a single drone incident accept out of unnecessary safety regulations like here.

The FAA wants to regulate everything like the sky is private property so they want to restrict drone flights to basically dedicated cages (they really pitched this idea)

So yeah, if you wanna comply to every stupid fucking shit your gov dictates feel free but you can't take the sky from me.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the pilots who have to fly those missions don't agree with you. And during a TFR, it's _their_ sky, not yours.

Sedona Arizona apparently since OP did the annoying Imgur thing where you don't just say the fucking name of the thing/place.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Hi. So two things.

1) Oak Creek Canyon, Secret Canyon, Vultee Arch. @OP gave not just one, but three locations in his post.

2) OP is @CodyBurkett. He lives in Arizona and offers that information openly at the end of every daily dump.

1 month ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 10

Sorry, 4 locations, I didn't realize that calling it the Pocket Fire was an additional location as well.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

....I kinda assumed by now everyone knew where I was, as i am not exactly subtle or ahy about where I live. I'm sorry, I will fix that in the post, forgive me

1 month ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 16

I have seen a few of your meme dumps, but yeah no idea where you live

1 month ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 6

Only the cool kids know who you are

Keep in mind that while this site may not be as big as it once was, it is still pretty big, and it's fair to assume that the grand majority of its users have never seen one of your posts or weren't paying attention, and thus have no idea who you are. I mean, you're not Beyoncé lol.

“I am the protagonist, everyone read all my posts and comments”

1 month ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 16

This is going to sound rude, but who the hell are you? Why should anyone know who you are? On this site, you are just a user.

1 month ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 27

Ditto, idk who you are. This place has thousands of users. Its not op and a few friends.

1 month ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 12

They’re a daily meme dumper with millions of followers. They always post things that mention where they live if you look at their posts often enough. That’s why. It’s an honest mistake.

1 month ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 7

Because I usually talk about birds i see, photography, or what im doing and most of that stuff is pretty location specific.

As for who the hell i am... i'm basically three scrub jays in a wizard robe trying to get by. It's pretty dubious that im human, but whatever.

1 month ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 9

Hey, friend, the fact that you ARE three scrub jays in a wizard robe is why you're one of my favorite Imgurians...Plx be safe and take care of your lungs. As a fellow Arizonan, fire season sucks...We have been through a couple that cleaned out our back field and one that put us out of the house for two weeks (the Monument Fire in 2011)
