My sister's dog wouldn't get up, wouldn't eat, and well... It was bad. We took her to an animal hospital and they x-rayed her. They found a large mass in her chest which, due to her low white blood cell count they figured was most likely cancer.
They recommended euthanasia, due to the high cost of keeping her there and the low chance she would pull through.
Absolutely heart breaking to see her lying on the mat, shivering with every breath, barely able to summon the energy to wag her tail when we came to visit her.
Well, nevermind that because they performed a biopsy today and it turned out to be fluid buildup. (I think, everyone in the family is too excited to actually tell me anything). She's standing up and playing with her new toy, despite having an oxygen tube stapled to her face. Wooooo!

Our dog had a massive buildup as well. Turned out, It was cancer. She was put to sleep 30minutes later. She was so sick at that point.

My Dane died in a similar situation. But they didn't offer any treatment. Only euthanasia :'(

To look at the cells? I'm a veterinary pathology resident (and a veterinarian) and the difference is important for diagnostic purposes.

Surgery not recommended bc older dog, she prob wouldn't live thru it = cut open stomach, untwist, staple down + anesthesia. Much too risky.
