Imgur help me: is that termite?

Jun 10, 2023 9:39 PM

Changing the main door of the house and this wood was under the old door

Is this termite? No insects were to be found though, please help.

Old infestation maybe?

Do I need to panic? The guy who is replacing the door said this is water damage, probably.

I'd say decayed wood that housed carpenter ants for a while. They don't eat solid, dry wood, so maybe you're okay.

I would disagree, judging by the tunnels, rather than chunks. See: https://www.dodsonbros.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Image_1_TermitesVS.png

Here's an article describing the visible difference between termites and Carpenter ants. I'd be surprised if you didn't have damage in nearby walls. When was the house last tented for termites/ants?
