Also — something I'm not hearing mentioned at all in the media — is that the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (aka Trump's bunker) is underneath the East Wing. Granted, it's likely significantly deep under the East Wing, but just the proximity to it at all along with this haphazard approach really makes me question if the security of that is being properly maintained.

Also, the White House is a part of the National Park system, and as such needs Congress to sign off on any major, disruptive projects like this.
